Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed I have always used this product but I just used it going from brown back to blonde and it did not even touch my hair color. Not at all. Have never had this issue before. I knew that going from brown back to blonde might take a few colorings but it did not even lighten it and chose the lightest blonde they had. Shade 02

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Light Auburn! I just absolutely love this hair color! I naturally have dark brown hair and at age 40, there are some very pesky grays. This not only takes care of the gray, but most people believe that this is my natural color! It turns my hair more of a medium auburn than the picture on the box but I'm cool with that and it's so natural looking! My hair feels soft and the color is perfect! I can see why it's called Excellence!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Like the color but instructions are wrong and conf I followed the direction but it said if it wasn't your 1st time coloring your hair do not use the serum. So this wasn't my first time coloring so I didn't use it. Well the bottle I noticed after dying my hair said TO USE THE SERUM. So as my hair is drying it is extremely dry and frizzy. Something that never happens to my hair. Please fix your instructions as now I want to wash my hair.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Color is NOT the same I got the color 7 1/2 which was supposed to be a ash blonde.. and it looks copper on my hair. My hair is literally orange. The formula left my hair soft and doesnt feel damaged but the color is WAY different and not what I expected...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did the formula change?? I have been buying this product for years and up until recently was very happy. I’ve notice that the color doesn’t last as used to. Also some gray hairs do not take the color. What happened?? I am going to switch companies for my hair coloring needs.

Is the 9X.13 the same as the Preference 9BB

I am unable to answer that question due to a lack of education. may find the answer on YouTube.  I remember seeing a video on how hair colors are labeled.

What kind of developer do I need to use if I am getting the 9x.1 extra light ash blonde?

Asked by: Becca9299
That really depends on what you're trying to achieve . Difference between 20 and 30 is the amount of lift . Granted in most cases 20 has better results for anyone covering grays

I use this color, but the light brown is too light and the medium brown gets too dark. I’m wondering if I can mix the two colors?

Asked by: Tracie S
Mixing the colors isn't going to help the darker of the 2 will dominate the overall result . Try changing out the developer

I bought this to retouch my mother’s grey roots. What developer do I use? The Sally’s store clerk said 10 volume but the box says 20/30 which one do I use? (L’Oréal technique Excellence Creme grey coverage 9.3 light golden blonde)

Asked by: Bella7love
I use 20 ... I 'think' 30 is for darker colors ... I've never heard of 10 ... but I'd stick with the 20. Don't forget, do NOT shampoo immediately after coloring, wait until the next day and use a blonde shampoo and conditioner - L'Oreal makes some good ones.

The color - Extra Light Ash Blonde - on my hair does keep the brassy-ness out - do not shampoo until the next day and be sure to use a good 'blonde' shampoo and conditioner, and use a good deep conditioner once a week

Does anyone know what has happened to Extra Light Reddish Blonde? It has disappeared!

Asked by: Sapphire829
I would guess they discontinued it.  It's a shame.  It's like lipstick....they just update.  Maybe you can find a similar color.  If you look on Youtube it teaches you about color and how to select and create the shade you want.

Does this also need developer? Any other tools?

Asked by: Loeywood
If you are referring to a tube of Permanent Creme Hair Color, then yes. You will need to purchase developer to mix with the hair color. You will also need an application bottle, for mixing the color and developer and for applying, along with gloves/hand protection so you don't stain your skin and a timer.

The way to counteract green is with red and in the hands of a color expert otherwise wash your hair with clarifying shampoo and wait for it to fade

I need a product to permanently get rid of brassiness to blonde hair. I don't want to have to keep using special shampoos

Asked by: Suzicares
I mix about 1/4 tube of #7 dark blonde with my #8 med blonde and it gets rid of the red as there is ash in the #7. Also use #10 developer instead of the one in the box (#20) as it is harsh.

If I mix a light red copper brown with a medium brown will that stop my gray hair from turning brassy

Asked by: Annie1955
Loreal Excellence: Stay away from any color that says "golden" means RED! I have used the #8 med. blonde, which is supposed to be neutral and even find it has more of a red cast than I like, so I've been mixing it with about 1/4 tube of #7 dark blonde and it seems to have enough ash blonde to cut out the red. Also been told by a stylist not to use the developer in box kits (#20) as it it too strong so I purchased a large#10 bottle from Sally's and it lasts a long time, just use the amount needed (I kept an empty bottle for measurement) and keep it capped. I wish I could just purchase the color tubes that comes in the boxes as I throw out everything else.

Do you wash you hair before applying the color?

No. I always read that the natural oils in your hair will protect your scalp and to not wash prior to coloring. You should also not wash it for at least 24 hours after.

Is it OK to use a 40 developer on slightly darker hair for color 7.43. I'm currently a bit of a dark red color

Asked by: KellyBien
Using ahigher volume peroxide changes the color and does not give the deposit of red pigment you may need best to wait and get proper shade you need

What comes after medium golden blonde color (L'Oréal Excellence) in a lighter blonde?

Asked by: Cindy Veliz
The higher the color number, the lighter the shade. #10 is the lightest blonde in this line. I have used it for many years but just switched to #9.5 to go slightly less blonde.

I use L'Oréal Gray Coverage and I blend 2 colors (on the recommendation of my daughter, a former Sally sales person and Cosmetology graduate.). Personally I use # 9 1/2.34 extra light reddish blond and 6.6 light auburn. My normal hair color is dark blonde.  The sales people are very helpful when you ask for help.

I would like to mix 2 different colors of the Loreal Technique Resistant Gray, Could someone please tell me the volume of color contained in one tube? It weighs 1.74 oz, but I would rather measure the color than just squeezing our 1/2 a tube.

Asked by: kitty118
When I mix two colors, which I always do, I measure them in a shot glass that has half and full oz. measurements on them. Depending on how much I need for coverage on my hair which is 1.5 oz. of creme and 1.5 oz developer if just the roots or more if I am doing the whole head. That is why I choose the creme since I can do not finish the tube and save some for the next time.

No. Hair dye is often colorless without a developer. Only semi-permanent and temporary dyes do not require developer.
