Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5NV is my Favorite Color. Thank you Sallys! 5NV is my Favorite Color. I was very glad that I contacted Sally's because I suddenly couldn't find the color in any store near me and it was showing as not in stock online. I bought 5 for now and then COVID hit! Stores closed. SO GLAD I DID!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Violet-Toned Brown Color I use this color in 3NV to darken my natural ash-blonde hair. My previous color was the AgeBeautiful Demi 3V, but that color appears to be discontinued, so I tried this permanent formula. My hair never pulls red or orange with this color, as it does with virtually every other brand of color in a similar shade. It comes out a beautiful, cool-toned brown with just a hint of violet in indoor light, and the violet is more pronounced outdoors. I absolutely love this color and I hope it's never discontinued.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the best at all. I started with medium-dark brown hair with lowlights poking through. Wanted to add alittle purple tone to my hair color so I applied the Medium Neutral Violet Brown for 1 hour. I heard these colors run a shade darker and it is very true. Glad I picked the #5 instead of the #4. Cream once mixed was light purple in color and then applied and left on it became dark purple. Thought my hair was going to be straight purple. I saw no browns in the mixture. Anyways once rinsed and dried you can barely see the plum color. Definitely darkened my hair to almost a soft black not dark brown. In some pictures you can see the purple hue color but then in a different shot all you see is nothing. Lol . Not wasting my time again with this color. I wished I saw some other reviews with pictures and couldn’t find any so I decided to show mine to help others out. It’s a pretty purple. Maybe would work better starting with light brown hair.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great at first, faded quickly I loved it right after I dried my hair. Had such a pretty purple tint. Unfortuately, it faded after the next shampoo. It has been a week and it is faded to where I will probably need to dye my roots way sooner than I usually do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful color I used the light neutral violet brown, my hair in naturally light-medium neutral brown, but pulls a lot of red-gold when coloring. The initial color was beautiful, I did use a violet and ash intensifier and blue-violet protein filler. After a few weeks, my hair looks back to the old color, despite limited washings, and only with sulfate free color treated shampoo, color sealers, and violet color depositing conditioner. I just wish the color lasted longer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Haircolor I was under the impression this was a hair color kit that included all necessary to color your hair. Either I read the info incorrectly or it did no indicate. When received all that was there was the Violet color. Upon reading all the enclosed paperwork it indicated different volumes if Peroxide necessary depending on different situations. To use this product you need to be a professional if you want the color to come out correctly It also said DO NOT use if unless it is Virgin hair, another item I do not remember reading prior to purchase. Bottom line, I did not use this product. Minimal outlay of money so I purchased another hair color from Sally Beauty that specified it was as kit. I'm very happy with the Ion product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No violet for me. I’ve been using the Age Beautiful 4N for a long time. Thought I’d try this for something different, but with the old color, it didn’t change a thing. May work for someone who didn’t have previous color on their hair, but it didn’t work for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t waste your money Burnt my head and my hair. Smells very strong, like chemicals. Color is terrible. I will continue using Ion. Covers gray better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Neutralizes if you pull warmer tones. I really like this Color Line. I'm a licenced stylist for 28yrs. These color are perfect for those who pull a lot of gold or red when using Brown Colors. Ever notice someone with natural Brown Hair when they stand in the sunlight you will see either golden or red tones? Well these color Neutralizes this affect. One comment I read said they were disappointed because the Violet was barley noticable! It's actually not supposed to show, or you may notice just slight hint in natural light. Colorists (such as myself) are not magical! It's going back to art class and the Color wheel. This is how we formulate Hair Color. You must always account for your natural color when applying hair color, or what ever Home/Salon Hair Color is on your hair. Violet -neutralizes gold undertones. Blue- neutralizes-red undertones. Just a few basics. Don't have enough time to go into Color Class. But Sometimes Coloring hair is not as easy as picking out a color and applying it to your hair. So many factors must be considered first. With this line it's all about a beautiful natural Brown to with no gold/red undertones. Sorta like Ash Blonde but with Brown. Hopefully this helps a little. With the women who didn't see much Violet in this color.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed Bought hair color this past weekend and used it Sunday, tubes are smaller then other brands, purple hue is non existent. Very disappointed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love This Color I almost went with the dark and glad I went with the medium. It's a beautiful rich brown with a hint of violet in it. It makes my hazel eyes pop and I've been told I look younger. Hey...I'll take that! I left the color on my roots to mid way (I have long hair) for 30 mins before adding to the rest of my hair for another 15 mins. The color is nice and even. My hair does seem a tad thicker and very shiny.

I got the 4nv thinking it looked more purply/ blue voilet and now that i have the box it seems to look like a redish toned color and i hate red in my hair. Does it just look that way on the box ( like a dark mahogany red) or will it look that way on me.

Asked by: Winks831
Yes, I had the same concern but I was happy with it. It's more of a red. I liked the idea of the blue violet, but it was a natural tone. I would say the 'mahogany red' is an accurate description.

Where can I buy this at and does it really cover gray hair for good or not?

Asked by: Lorraine53
It covers my gray great (except for your roots of course - they need touch ups) It's a beautiful color (in my opinion) not reddish - not too purple - attractive - just right.

I want to stick with a demi color, will this work if I use a 6 or 10 developer? I'm using it only to color grey which is less than 25% but the NV doesn't come in the demi line. I always pull reddish gold when coloring, I want a violet to keep it neutral.

Asked by: pauladahla
I would use a 10

Is the 6NV in this line equivalent to the 6NV hair color kit by Ion? Ion labels theirs "Cool Dark Blonde" while this brand is labeled "Light Neutral Violet Brown." Is this darker?

Asked by: hummingbird42
its much darker

I currently use ION DARKEST BROWN to cover my grays and only do the roots and my hair is dark brown almost looks black. Will this product do any lightening to my hair and which color should I try ? I love that violet twist color :(

Asked by: sbaez1986
Probably not if you stick with a level 1 or 2, always keep in mind that 20vol. developer is always best when covering grey, but it also lifts 2 tones then deposits. With your tone being so dark you should have an issue as long as you stay in the same level ie:1 or 2. The Violet is very slight, if you want to see more of this add a Violet kicker to your formula. Best if luck!!

What is the purpose of a neutral violet? I have used the Plum brown before and it gave a nice result but why a neutral? Almost seems to defeat the purpose?

Asked by: EiFHPatC
It's Neutral Meaning it won't pull any undertones in your natural hair color such as red or gold, the Violet in it Neutralizes these tones. Have you ever noticed a person with Natural Brown Hair Color in sunlight, and you see either gold or red? ( like highlights) Most Individuals don't care for these undertones in their hair , even though they are beautiful. With this Color Line you will end up with a Beautiful Rich Natural Brown Color with a slight hint of Violet. As a Colorists, I use Ash Blonde if a client doesn't want to see golden tones in their hair, this is the same effect except with Brown.Hope this will answer your question.
