For the brightest scarlet locks, Manic Panic Semi-Permanent Hair Color Cream Pillarbox Red is a natural choice. Named after the post office boxes in the UK, this color is lighter and more chromatic than Rock 'N' Roll® Red, but darker and cooler than Wildfire™. Bleaching prior to use is definitely recommended to achieve the richest color. For a matching red lip, use our Lethal™ Lipstick in CS™ Red. This vegan, semi-permanent color is tested on celebrities, not animals™.

Semi Permanent Cream Hair Color is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 753.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bold but doesn't last I bought this about a month ago and I love how bold my hair was (bleached it then dyed it purple/violet) but it kept fading out way too quick. I had to redo it twice to keep it purple for less than a month. That's cause I used cold water during showers and didn't wash my hair to try and keep the dye in. Even at that there were times I would wrap my hair in a bag so it wouldn't get wet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality hair dye The dye shows up so well! I Only had to bleach it to a medium blonde for it to be bright red. Definetley recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great on salt & pepper hair I’ve been using Manic Panic for a couple of years now. My hair is getting whiter by the month, so the product works well. I like streaks, so it’s perfect for my salt & pepper hair. The only downside is that it fades quickly, but that’s ok. Sometimes you like it white. I like it! I’ll br 70 in 2 months and enjoy being a blue-haired little old lady!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed. Left it on for recommended time and it did not even change the hair. I've used this brand before, in a turquoise and hot pink color, on hair that is not bleached, and it worked great. This time, it did nothing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great product— if you have common sense. I’ve been using manic panic for 15 years. All colors except the pastels (including virgin snow, which is just a weak toner and the pastelizer because why). I swapped to ion for a while, because of bad luck with Rockabilly Blue, which is beautiful but stains just as badly as Splat, and a lack of nice yellows. My hair is naturally a medium to dark mousey brown and has been pastel pink, blue, purple using Manic Panic mixed with conditioner. IF YOU WANT TRUE COLOR YOU HAVE TO BLEACH YOUR HAIR. Hair swatches are made on white synthetic hair. Not brown. Not dark blonde. W H I T E. Not patchy half-bleached ombré. W H I T E. The color is a stain. Which is why you can leave it on for three hours and not damage your hair. So if you start with black, you’ll end with black, maybe with some tones of whatever color you pick. If you don’t know how to color hair with a semi-permanent (box dyes are permanent kids, that’s why they smell bad) then DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and don’t buy this product and leave a bad review due to USER ERROR. I’ve never had a problem coloring properly bleached, dry hair with Manic Panic. Like any semi color, it fades. Especially with daily washes with hot water and shampoo. Want your color to last longer? Use cold water and wash every two or three days. It’s SEMI-permanent. It will fade. Put some in your conditioner for touch ups through the week. Hair maintenance takes some work but it isn’t that hard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected I bought a few colors for a halloween temp-dye hair do. I read online that somebody suggested to leave the color in as long as you can for brighter results. I left it in for about 3 hours. I am so pleased with the colors and how it turned out that I'm making an appointment at a salon to make it permanent. The bottom of my hair is bleached from a summer ombre look and the colors pop right out. I also have very dark brown hair but the color shines through in a more subtle way but still eye-catching. I would definitely recommend this product. I can't speak to how it fades out though. I've only washed my hair three times since dying it but the color is still just as bright as the first day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this colour!! Neon green is one of my favourite colours and this is the only brand I have found it in. It does fade pretty fast but if you re colour a couple times it has good staying power. Will definitely buy it again.

I am seventy years old and have dark brown hair. I have just been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer and going through aggressive chemo. I want to dye my hair cotton candy. I’m looking at this as a bucket list item. Would it work?

Asked by: Reefcomber
Yes, Use two or three containers and good luck with your chemo.

my hair is dark brown and very thin i want it blue so that you will be able to notice but not sky blue and i just want the ends will this blue product work pretty well even if i dont bleach it

Asked by: Bayan123
I would say probably not. I also have dark brown hair and attempted green. Couldn’t see it until I bleached streaks first, then used all over green. The color really stuck to the bleached hair, but you had to look verrrrrrry hard at my brown hair to even see the green.

Can you apply this to color treated brown hair?

Asked by: 1Laurels
You can but it will be very dull and not nearly as bright as the colors appear in the container. These (and basically ALL bright color dyes) only really look right on bleached hair. Your hair must be very light to achieve vibrant colors.

dying my light brown hair with the hot pink, how long do you think it will last?, don't want it more for 2 weeks...

Asked by: maddycmoo
the stain may last longer than you'd like, try diluting the dye with some cream conditioner when you apply it or go with a washable color, like chalk dye.

How to use it

Asked by: Anastasi
1) Shampoo hair using a deep cleansing shampoo. Apply to freshly washed, dry hair. 2) Empty the desired amount of Manic Panic Hair Color into a coloring bowl. Apply evenly with a tint brush 3) Do not apply to the scalp, but 1/2 inch from scalp. Saturate hair thoroughly. Comb evenly through the hair until it becomes frothy. 4) Cover hair in plastic cap and leave on for 30 minutes. For added intensity heat may be used. 5) Rinse hair in cold water away from face and body until the water runs clear.

Would I need to bleach my hair if it is Dirty Blonde if I was only doing the tips of my hair Atomic Turquoise? Also if i was to dye the tips of my hair (I'm thinking less then 2.5 inches) what would I use to make sure it's even across?

Asked by: Orangejuice25
Howdy! Atomic Turquoise is a really rich color, so if your hair is already light, you won't need to bleach it! If you're wanting the really bright, eye-burning turquoise you see online, you may want to bleach it. If you're not comfortable with chemical bleaching and are dedicated to getting that bright color, since your hair is already light, you can try the lemon juice and sunlight thing, where over a couple weeks you lighten your hair by putting lemon juice on it and staying in the sun. As for getting the tips even, there's a few ways you could do it! 1. Separate your hair into lots of small sections, and put hair ties or bobby pins at the length you want the tips done. You can check they're all even before you apply the dye, and it'll also help keep the dye from going elsewhere while you wait! 2. If you have or can get one, a dye applicator brush with its bristles the same length as you want the tips can also work. Line up the ends of your hair with the bases of the bristles, and carefully press dye into your hair for only the length of the bristles. 3. Just wing it! Start slow at the very ends, and carefully work your way around your head. Find the shortest tip, add a little more dye up the length, and repeat until the tips all look about the same. A pro tip, from someone who has messed up tips before: after rinsing the dye out and letting your hair dry, put another really light layer of dye over the tips and slightly above. Keep it on for a third or half the time the dye is supposed to stay in, then rinse. It'll result in a fade that looks totally intentional and will hide any odd spots on your hair. And before I go, one more thing; if you're nervous, watch YouTube tutorials! You'll get a good idea of how dye interacts with hair, and you'll find yourself mentally comparing how you'd do it differently, and it's a great way to get comfortable with something new.

I used to do my hair like that all the time. The color won't be as vibrant if you don't bleach first so I used to bleach before because I have burnette hair. For the even line, use a pony tail and part your hair normally. Pull it pony tail from your scalp to the desired length. I did this with both steps. But make sure you get into the middle of the pony tail too and saturated.
