Rated 1 out of 5 by from DisappointMINT I used the shade "Mint" on my fiancee's level 9 hair, and the colour barely left any pigment after rinsing. We're both very disappointed with the results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No color showed up in my hair I have extremely light blonde hair, so you would expect this product to easily show up on my hair, I got the light pink version and it did not work AT ALL. It was such a waste of time and money, do not recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Even though I pre-lightened to the necessary level, it barely showed out and washed out immediately even though I only cowash (don't use shampoo). Total waste of money :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best hair dye so far I have super dark hair that is very hard to bleach for one and is difficult to deposit color on for two. I have used the dark blue dye for several months now and have never had issues. It works so much better than something like Manic Panic or Arctic Fox, which doesn't dye my hair very well. This is very pigmented and lasts me for weeks! In comparison to Manic Panic, I was spending $20 (Needed two jars) about 2 times a month and having to dye every 2 weeks. Now I only spend about $6 and I use this only once a month! So glad one of the employees recommended me this!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it! Followed instructions on the box, and the mint green did not even show through on the light blonde hair that it went on! It gave it a slight green tint but not worth the money. I have better results with the permanent hair dye with Wella just wish they had a hot a bright color line that was permanent.Wish I could get my money back as the girl who checked us out was not very friendly and said nothing about any thing we should do different than what the box says.

A couple questions: Do I need to tone my hair after I bleach or just put the color on? How many boxes will I need if my hair is to my mid back?

Asked by: ParkerOne
Not sure about bleaching and toning since I use this product on my natural color un-treated/un-bleached hair. As for how many tubes you would need, that will also depend on the level of thickness that your hair is, not just the length (2 might be enough, but its probably best to buy 3 tubes to be safe). Since I use this product on my shoulder length, un-colored/un-treated/un-bleached hair I use a lot more to saturate and I leave it on for several hours. If you plan to bleach first you may not need as much product and you definitely won't need to leave it on as long as I do. You still may want to ask a stylist what they would recommend regarding bleaching/toning prior to using this product.

My hair is about a level 6 and I had dye it it before but it’s all washed out. I want this blue to be a dark blue but not quite black. Do you think I’ll have any problems?

Asked by: kira4343
For these colors to work best you have to get your hair almost white before coloring it. The color will be the color as described and will also last longer.

What is the best color for light brown hair? I was thinking purple but idk

Asked by: Sierrasauce
Honestly you can put any color on your hair, but unless you lighten it some first you're not going to get a lot of adhesion.  You'll see the hues of your dye color but know it is over brown hair. As it fades it will appear as undertones.  I suggest going with a color that's in your color family.  If you're a cool tone go purple. If you're a golden go pink or red.  Blue and green will not give you a good result on virgin hair, your likely to look like you have pool hair.  No one wants to look like you have algea growing in their hair. Hope this helps.

Can you use this on colored hair to get it brighter? Or would I need to lighten my hair first and if so what should I do I have a dark red violet on my hair 5vr and my hair is naturally dark brown.

Asked by: Yosie0721
You can apply this over your color to get a tinted of color since its semi-permanent but lightening it with a bleach lightened would be best. To get level 5 hair light enough you'd need to mix bleach with a lvl 30 volume developer.

Can I mix this with conditioner to make overtone?

Asked by: EleanorN
I’ve mixed it with conditioner and use it every time I wash. Overtone is pretty intense so just be careful not to add too much conditioner to your colour.

So I put the teal on my cousin and when I washed her after the time was up the all of the color washed out. I didn't dry her hair completely between the lighting and the color. Is the fact that her hair was still damp the reason the color didn't take?

Asked by: Amyfergi
Don’t wash it right away.   I rinsed with water after color was set and dried it.  I didn’t wash for 1-2 Days and it was perfect.

I bought fuchsia but I’m needing to get a bubble gum pink, could I dilute with conditioner?

Asked by: Virginia89
They sell a "clear" and that's what you use to dilute the color. I haven't actually done it because I prefer the jewel tones, but it's for just that purpose.

Can you mix the clear with a color? My mom wants to be a 5n and wants shine on her hair. Would she need to do them separately? If so should we do the color or clear first?

Asked by: Emmyluwho
Always colour first. Apply the 5n but you CAN apply the clear immediately following. Unless they are BOTH Semi permanent products, you cannot mix the two together.

Does it cover gray?

Asked by: Bigbootyjudy
I use the Blue color over my whole head, and the gray takes it really well (it darkens my still-brown hair almost black). I used a 20-volume toner rather than the 10 (by accident) and it stayed a really long time.

Is the bleach in the kit

Asked by: Cameo2005
You should have toned prelightened/bleached hair or toned light blonde hair to really get the bright colors, or you should at least know how dyes work and color theory if you want to experiment.  any brassiness, blorange, or yellow tones in your hair,  you should do a swatch test.

the clear color paint what does it do

Asked by: chick 45
For custom pastels, dilute any other Paints shade with Clear to create the desired color intensity.* *The above info can be found by clicking on "Directions". (Choose "Clear" from the Paints color selector menu. Scroll below to the Directions drop-down box. It is located about halfway down the page.) FYI, there are detailed instructions, pics, and videos on the Wella website that I found helpful for visualizing the various color possibilities.

I tried the coral color last night but it barely took to my very bleached hair. The instructions say to wash & condition as required, so I did that after. I'm wondering now, if I wasn't supposed to. Does anyone know?

Asked by: Sonnet Ozzy
I used this same color but I left it on my hair for 45 minutes then I only rinised my hair with cold water waited 4 days (using dry shampoo in between) and had great results. I have noticed that the light colors like the Coral seem to fade away a little faster then the dark colors. I did my roots blood orange fade to coral to light pink

It would be okay to open it and then cap it up for up to 12 months. Strand testing is a great way to preview the color results and make sure of any changes you might want to make.

My hair is tinted a permanent level 5 red violet, will this color make much of a change to a more violet shade or more red?

Asked by: mselliem
color can't pick up color, especially semis. Semis do not have ammonia or peroxide, you would need to do either a color fix, and/or bleach to lighten it and get the best results. On dark hair especially, semis wont do anything, semis either work on bleached/light hair, or on already previously dyed color. For instance I used the Magenta by Loreal, and after it faded I put on some red semi permanent. .

Does this work on dark hair?

Asked by: cjsinny1
semis don't really do anything to dark hair, especially dyed dark hair. Usually your hair has to be at a lvl 10-9 to get the most vibrant results. I have seen some youtube videos of girls who sleep with manic panic on and get a hue of the color they put on, like blue or purple, that is the only one I would recommend doing that with since Manic Panic is vegan and cruelty free. Although semis do not have ammonia or peroxide, they still have some chemicals that can dry out the hair. It is best to mix at least a lil bit of a hair mask with your semi.

Asked by: Leta1111
The lighter your hair is the better is will show up. As far as mixing with peroxide you don't mix Wella Paints with peroxide. They are semi-permanent which means peroxide would eat the semi permanent color.
