Rated 5 out of 5 by from From Red to Purple - covering stained hair My hair is currently stained red from multiple permanent and semi perm home dye jobs over the years. I wanted to go purple, but the various dyes that I tried wouldn’t cover my red and it just kept coming out magenta. Even bleach baths wouldn’t remove the red, so I did some research on what semi perm dyes will actually COVER another color, and decided to try Manic Panic in Purple Haze next. It definitely covered my red, got a great purple - for about 2 weeks. After that it faded back to the red pretty quickly. Each time I use it though, it fades slower and tones down my red a little more. Couldn’t really ask much more from a semi perm dye. This warm shade of purple goes well with just about any skin tone, and fades to a lovely dusty rose.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wild Fire This color presents as a red and it is not it is orange. My mom wanted to re dye her hair today so I looked on this app because I love sallys and it is the only place i get my bleach and blue hairdye for myself! but i got this color thinking it would be a red because my mom wants her hair to be a bright red. shes had her hair red already, all we were doing was her roots, bleaching and dying them and we also bleached and dyed the sides and the back of her head. (she has the sides and the back of her head shaved) her hair is now orange and she says she likes it but idk if she really does ,also, because i thought it would be red i dyed over her red hair so it looks so dark at the top and orange everywhere else. im not trying to be mean, im just warning everyone that this may not turn up red in your hair it might turn up orange.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Long lasting I dyed my hair with the voodoo blue during 4th of July weekend. I applied the dye to my natural medium brown hair after shampooing and blowdrying it. I did not use a toner or lighten it at all but it was still noticeably. It faded to green after about 2-3 weeks, so a little more quickly than I'd have hoped. But I liked the green too, so I was fine with it. I'm impressed by how well the green is staying in my hair, considering it's now been 5 months since dying it and it hasn't faded completely. I decided it was finally time to work on getting the green out and head & shoulders + baking soda seems to be working, if slowly. I would consider redying it but it took weeks for the dye to not bleed every time my hair got wet. And I had to rinse my hair for probably over 2 hours the first time for the water to run mostly clear. So it was a little more of a hassle than I anticipated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In love Was expecting a darker red but I am still in love with the outcome. I had faded hot pin before adding the dye. I left it on for two hours. My hair feels super softer after washing it off so it’s a plus ! Bad thing is it will stain everything more than other dyes. Especially after you run your fingers thru your hair you’ll finger will be red... but red stains can be removed with Clorox. Over all super happy. Manic panic never fails. Btw, I used infra red

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ultra Violet turned my hair blue and green I added peek a boo purple to my hair, days before my wedding. After 2 days, the purple on top turned pink and the bottom faded to a blue and eventually a blue/green. Its been 3 weeks and it still looks like I added blue and green to my hair, with no signs of purple.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful This was the worst hair dye I've used. It never showed up on my hair no matter how much I had put on. I processed it under heat for 10 minutes and it didn't even help.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good I have dark brown hair with blonde highlights; I bought the ultra violet color and applied it to my highlights and let it sit for over an hour. I LOVED how it came out at first but after a week (and only like 3 washes) it totally faded, It's not as opaque anymore and my blonde hair is starting to show :( I would have to apply it once a week if I wanted the color to stay longer. I super bummed it did'nt last long because I really liked the color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the colors! I've been using this stuff in my hair for years....never had issues. A good tip for fading color. Wash your hair in cold water. It holds the color longer. I usually only have to dye my hair maybe once a month.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great colors but fades quickly I dyed my hair on a Sunday on clarified hair. I left the dye in for about an hour. Washed it for the first time on Wednesday, then again on the following Sunday (total of 2 washes). I used a dry shampoo between washes but the color still faded tremendously! Mostly the top faded but the overall look faded a lot. I loved the first day color - it was vibrant and beautiful! I used rock n roll red on the roots, and wildfire on the rest. Rock n roll faded the most. I tried a different brand to re-dye it after just 1 week

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Hair Dye Got this last month and after bleaching my hair gradually I mixed some of the ultra violet dye with conditioner to get a lavender color and that’s exactly what happened. Also it works GREAT on curly hair because my hair is curly and I’m a black person. The color showed just as well as it would on straight hair. This product works very well and I plan to use it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I am in love with this product, I have tried the dye in Vampire Red, and I thought it was very pretty, and easy to use, however, my friend has used this hair dye last August, her hair still has color in it, it has faded out to an orange color, and has lasted about a year, I was very surprised since some people are saying it lasts about 2 weeks. My hair is very soft and shiny, and hasn’t damaged my hair at all, it comes right off your skin with soap and warm water I do recommend this product for people. When I washed my hair for the first time after using this product, tons of dye came out. But my hair hasn’t lost any color. (I have dirty blonde hair)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shocking Blue is well... shockingly bad I've tried many MANY Manic Panic colors in the past but this is the WORST. After dying my hair it was completely gone after two washes. But on top of that it stained my hair horribly. My hair was a faded green before I applied this color and I hoped to be either blue or teal- somewhere in that range. I would even accept purple. After washing my hair twice my hair is now a mix of orange and pink. This dye has little to no blue pigment in it. If anything it's mostly on the purple/pink range. Very disappointed, such a waste of money.

Does this work on dark hair? I have dark brown almost black hair.

Asked by: TammyTanner
No, it would only add slight tint & would only be visible in direct sunlight. If you want a subtle color, I recommend using vampire red, I dyed my med-dark brown hair with that shade & the result was a gorgeous burgundy.

I just died my hair with a purple from garnier that you by at the local grocery store. My hair was dark brown before the purple didn’t turn out as vibrant as I wanted. It quite dark. If I use a purple in the manic panic would that intensify the purple?

Asked by: Hayles96
No you have to bleach your hair prior to dying to get the purple to really show.

will the dye stain my bathtub at all? if so is it easy to come out?

Asked by: machuca22
Okay so, I died my hair red and rinsed it in the bathtub, if you rinse it and it looks all clean..... DONT BE FOOLED!! The good thing is the next day when you take another shower/bath, it comes right out, if it doesn't come out all of the way then get some rubbing alcohol and clean it where it stayed, then POOOOOOF it's gone. other. than that, it doesn't really stain anything but maybe like white towels, sooooooo UMMMM yah dont use a white towel.....

I want to try out some different colors but I don’t want it to stain my highlights which are a lighter blonde. Will this completely wash out eventually or will it stain my hair?

Asked by: joshua_r
As with just about any direct deposit, semi-permanent hair dye, these will stain your hair. The colours that will stain the least are light, pastel, or diluted colours (especially a light lilac or purple). You might have more luck diluting the colours with conditioner, or applying them to wet hair, rather than clean, dry hair, but then the colours will be less vibrant. I would stay away from blues and greens as they tend to stain the worst.

Whats the easiest way to apply this?

Asked by: theonlyone666
Hi The Only! Here are the steps: 1. Wash hair with PREPARE TO DYE CLARIFYING SHAMPOO. Do not condition. 2. Dry hair with a blow dryer to remove excess water and ensure the hair is extremely porous and 3. Apply desired Manic Panic hair color. 4. Comb through each section to make sure color is evenly applied and thoroughly saturated (color may become slightly frothy) 5. Leave color on for 30-45 minutes. 6. Rinse hair away from face with gloved hands until the water runs clear 7. Towel and/or blow dry hair. 8. Style as usual. For more questions or tips, please contact our color experts via email:

currently medium brown (color treated permanent Ion color) want to have peacock color accents /cobalt blue, lime green, bronze. was thinking electric lizard and after midnight blue. thoughts or suggestions?

Asked by: Sherriled
Hi Sherriled! We do not recommended using our bleach kits (or any bleach) over permanent dyed brown/black hair as it can be very damaging. For best results, I recommend seeking the help of a professional stylist to discuss different options of removing the color. A great way to add a pop of color is to use Manic Panic on clip in or tape in extensions! For more tips, tricks, and assistance please email our color experts

I dyed my hair ashy brown however its to green, if I use any of the reds will it take the greens out with dying my hair very red.

Asked by: Nikki_Texas
Hi Nikki! Depending on the shade of green and what you are trying to achieve it is possible to use a red to make a custom toner and neutralize the ash in your hair. To make a custom toner you will mix a small amount of of red with the Manic® Mixer/Pastel-izer. For best results, I recommend seeking the help of a professional stylist of emailing a picture to our color experts for further assistance!
