Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best Semipermanent Colors! So, I use the Ion Semi-permanent Midnight Blue Black (2 boxes) mixed with the Ion Semi-permanent Brights in Sapphire (2 boxes) to get a super dark blue black color. My natural hair color is a dark, ashy brown and this combo took perfectly on my hair! Also, it is long lasting for me as well which is why I chose to write this review (seeing as there are soo many mixed reviews). I shampoo my hair once a week, and my hair was still dark after 2 months when I recolored (most of the blue was gone, but my hair was still black). I do see some of the color rinsing out with each shampoo, but that is expected with semi-permanent colors (hence the nickname "rinse", lol). I do not want to use a permanent hair color on my hair just yet so this is perfect in the meantime. I will say the products can make my hair feel a bit dry after the first rinse, but that was not anything a good deep condition following application couldn't solve. See photos below for my hair color after a fresh application.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fades very quickly! I got this in the colors medium-warm brown and black to mix together. My hair was bleached almost white blonde when I used this. Right after I rinsed the color out it was a very deep brown/ almost black. In the sunlight my hair had a weird purple tint to it. I’ve washed my hair a couple times since I’ve dyed it and my hair faded to a weird greyish- purple.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from it's a good color but... It came off after the first wash, I left it on for 40 min, even though the box said 10-25 min, and it was fine for the first 3 days, but when i washed it with cold water and really fast it all came off

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My satisfaction I’m allergic to most hair dyes and I do not have any problems with this product. I liked the light brown and was disappointed it was discontinued. But the medium shade is working fine

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Purple tint? I used the blackest black semi permanent dye from this brand to put on my roots so I can have a shadow root for my “white” hair. The dye washes out DRASTICALLY every time I washed my hair, which is probably once or twice a week that I do. Only after 2 days after dyeing it started to fade without me touching it with anything. It has a strong purple tint to it where it meets the “white”. I’m not sure if this is my fault but the dye definitely does not last as long as a semi permanent probably should. My natural hair is a medium brown but I have blonde highlights at the temples, which remained blonde because the hair couldn’t pick up the color for whatever reason. I don’t know if the purple is the dyes fault or mine, but even in the bowl the color had a purple tint to it every time I dyed my roots. It does look sort of cute in the beginning but definitely not what I wanted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent overall color and coverage. I bought this color after growing all my natural hair color and grays out for a year and the shade it gives my hair is amazing. My hair now is simply a short graduated bob haircut, so one tube is all I needed with about a third of the tube left over.

Will medium warm brown work and lighten my dark brown hair?

Asked by: Alejandra Ramirez
Unfortunately, semi permanent color will not lighten your hair only deposit color. It's best to go to a salon to have them lighten. If your hair has never been color treated or chemical treated then you could get permanent color in a lighter shade and it will lighten your hair. If your hair has been colored before the results will vary and you will want to see a professional.

I have blond hair that hasn't been colored in over 9 years and it is on the thin side. With the harsh weather and how thin my hair is, I'm worried it will damage my hair like other colors did in the past. I am I worrying too much??

Asked by: RachRawr
There is zero chemicals in it. You don't mix with any peroxide, this goes straight on your hair, should not do any damage what so ever.

Can you use it for lowlights?

Asked by: Botty1980
I am not sure, I get these questions because I buy so much as I am allergic to permanent. It's wash out so just try it, wash about 5-6 times it will be gone if it's not what you want.

Can this be used to lighten a color prior to applying?

Asked by: westcoast
I don't use it for that purpose, so I'm not sure. I don't use with developer and to only deposit color, not lift.
