Rated 3 out of 5 by from Builds up quickly Great coverage but remember to use a water base color remover when it looks faded before reapplying or you will get s much darker color. If its a darker shade you want then no problem. It builds up very evenly but i recommend not to apply to many times before removing or you will end up bleching it remove as i did after six months.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from even color from root to tip-hair smooth There are pros and cons and I still have to see how it holds the color. The pros-the color is even from root to tip. It is deep almost dark red but a wash or two should get it to what i like which is a medium.(I think it will be vibrant) The hair is smooth feeling, and none of my natural curl was affected. Also even though my hair is practically down to my waist(but fine) I really only needed one tube. Maybe a touch more. The cons - the tube is very difficult to handle as it starts to wear down because our hands are full of color and they are slippery and slidy and we are trying to extricate more color from the tube. It is difficult. Another con is that the rinse kept running from red to pink and after 15 minutes I had to just quit. The towel is not full of color though. one more con- I got frightened, as a few of my long hairs came out-I didnt know what to expect-but after a while i saw it was just that small bunch and nothing more. I would like to say that i do not feel breakage with this. Looking forward to seeing how things work out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didnt cover my blonde roots at all I usually use the permanent dye from color ion but decided to give my hair a break and use these instead. I used the same colors as I do with the permanent, waited longer than what the instructions said to let the color really deposit... Washed it out and it literally did nothing... I have blonde roots so I'm very surprised there was no change at all, not even a slight tint darker. I used a mix of dark purples so you'd think it would take easily but nope. Very disappointed. Guess I'll have to make another trip to Sally's and get the permanent color like I usually used. What a waste of time and money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fades very quickly I bought blackest black and it turns out is has a purple undertone, I dont mind this (in fact I love it) but if your looking for something more natural I wouldn't recommend it. The only thing I hate about this hair dye is that, it fades very quickly. It only last about 3-4 washes, which is unfortunate because I love the color.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Brown hair Didnt work well on brown hair. Hoped it would because i didnt want to bleach my hair. Ion is a great brand works well on bleached hair.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good. I bought the semi permanent color, and once i used it it did not work at all. Actually made my hair brown when I got a purple color. Will not be buying it again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Washes out quickly I used to use permanent hair color but developed an alergy to the current products on the market. I am forced to use the semi permanent stuff now. This hair color is easy to use and doesn't harm my skin. I gave it 2 stars because it doesn't take to my gray hair very well right when I first apply it. Then it fades after the 3 washing...I like it because it fades to a purple hue...I love purple...lol...but it is supposed to be black. I have no choice but to use this. I just have to use it more often then most.

people are saying not to wash my hair as much or the dye will fade quicker, does that mean to just not use shampoo and conditioner or what?

Asked by: tuffy788
Shampoo will strip the color out faster. So if you must wash your hair daily, using a co-wash will help. Also, doing a conditioning treatment once a week with 3 parts white, uncolored conditioner, to 1 part dye (Whatever color you have in) will help to maintain the color.

Can this be used on over processed, damaged hair?

Asked by: Stateofla
Yes, it has conditioner in it  makes the hair shiny as well. I like this product. You may want to put the product for more than 3 hours instead of half hour as described in the instruction to have a very good nice  color

I have dark brown hair &want fully black hair to cover a few grey hairs but I've seen a few reviews that say the black has a purple hue or fades to purple? How much will the color change? And how often can I dye my hair without doing too much damage?

Asked by: Jennifer94
I have not used the black color, but I have used several of the browns.  You can use the semi-permanent as often as you need because there is no ammonia or peroxide in it.  The only problem is that, as it washes out, it lightens and the base color comes through.  I have had my browns turn to a pink or purple glow, and the golden browns turn green.  I finally had to give up and switch to a color that is permanent.

Is this product used just on the roots ? I have highlighted blond hair and want to cover my gray roots in between appointments. If it is for all over won’t it cover the highlights ?

Asked by: California67
You can used it just on the roots. It will cover the high lites if you use it all over. Just depends how you apply it.

Will plum or the burgundy show up on medium to dark brown hair? Even in the sunlight?

Asked by: Marialynn
I bought both of these colors. I have only tried the Burgundy Brown and it has come out amazing. It lasts me about 2 weeks and I wash my hair every other day. It does fade each day, but by about day 5 I really like the shade. Can't wait to try the Plum.

Will medium warm brown work and lighten my dark brown hair?

Asked by: Alejandra Ramirez
Unfortunately, semi permanent color will not lighten your hair only deposit color. It's best to go to a salon to have them lighten. If your hair has never been color treated or chemical treated then you could get permanent color in a lighter shade and it will lighten your hair. If your hair has been colored before the results will vary and you will want to see a professional.
