Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great color- lasts longish The best black hair dye I've encountered so far. It's been about a month and it's only just now fading, my hair is collarbone length with an undercut (so slightly less hair) and it neatly covers half my head with one bottle, so if you have shoulder length hair or longer and want to do your whole head get at least 2. the dye is pleasantly thick and has a strongish smell. It doesn't come with an applicator or gloves so you need to get your own.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It’s close enough I’m blonde so I knew it wouldn’t work perfectly but it’s a dark shiny grey instead of black and it’s not ugly so that’s good definitely would try another round of dying it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does not burn Used Silk Essentials for years twice a week for gray white beard and mustache until got discontinued. Tried few others that were recommended by staff like Bigen permanent(bad burn) and Clairol semi-permanent color both burned the skin. This is the only one so far had no issues. In 25 min it does turn beard darker using black color then Silk Essentials which was more neutral salt and pepper look. Will try adjusting time to see different results.

I dyed my hair blonde awhile back, my natural dark brown hair is growing in, my hair pretty much looks ombré. I want to try the black, but I’m not sure if it’s evenly gonna dye my hair black? Also not sure if the blonde will be back after this wears off?

Asked by: DezMil18
I highly recommend a strand test before doing your entire head. Depending on the porosity of the blonde your results will vary, anything from a weird fade to the base color of either blue or red, or the black might soak in and not wash out at all. The chances of an all over even dye job on the first round is unlikely but that does not mean it won’t look cool so good luck!

The instructions say "rinse but don't shampoo" after applying, which is inconceivable to me. What happens if you do shampoo it? Is it supposed to wash out completely?

Literally just did my daughters hair an hour ago. Used blackest black on virgin, dark blonde/ light brown hair and there is NO difference in her hair color. Like, NONE. Ridiculous.

How to apply semi permanent cream hair color

Asked by: Anonymous
After washing I allow to slight so water is not running down my face.  Squeeze the tube to expel into your hair or hands.  I will take this opportunity to say the tube is awful.  Lots of product is wasted and goes unused because it is stuck inside that tube.  If you have a tube squeezer use that so that all of your product gets out into your hands or directly into your hair.  Also wear gloves because product will stain your hands and nail.  After applying product I put plastic cap on and sit under hair dryer for 30 mins then let hair cool off before rinsing product out under cool to warm water.  Results last me 3 days

do you have to wash this product out? I know it says to wash it out but it also says it’s non damaging because it’s just a color deposit, so could I instead apply it to my hair and blow dry it to get the color I want instead of washing it out?

Asked by: Ashlynntx2020
When you apply the color and let it sit for the allotted time it will deposit the color into your hair folicle. You will need to wash out the remainder of the product that is not absorbed, but the deposited color will stay in your hair. It is not a temporary hair color, do not leave the product in your hair.

I have the 5vr permanent on my hair now and absolutely love it just that my husband is dying to see me with black hair but i dont want to get rid of my red hair. Will this work and not ruin my current hair color?

Asked by: pokadot8
If your hair is colored red, when the black washes out over time, it will not go back to red. It will wash out to your regular hair color.

In December I had a red balayage done, the red has washed out and I haven’t toned it. My hair is now has brassy and I wanted to dye my whole head w/ the semipermanent midnight black/blue dye. Do I need to do anything to my hair before I apply the dye

Asked by: isabellalysette
No. You should probably leave it on longer than recommended. There is no chemicals in it. Meaning it not damaging, its deposit only, leaving it on longer will help cover the brass tones better. Or and you can reapply the blue black again , the same day, or when you choose too. Of it hasn't completely hidden the brass tones. Keep in mind tho eventually the after x amt of washes the blue black will fade, and the brassy tones will likely show back up, unless you frequently, like monthly keep reapplying the blu black. I would not recommend bleaching the existing brass tone you have before using the blue black, mainly cz bleaching is so harsh on the hair. And second blue black is a very dominant color and will very likely cover it just fine. Hope that helps, others may have different suggestions, this is just my personal opinion, and experience.

Asked by: Lana poveda
You could probably telephone a store and they could shop for you and you could pay for them with your debit then tell them what time you'll be coming by and you could text them when you get there and they could bring it out to you I've never done that I ordered mine online from Sally beauty.com and they sent them directly to my home I hope this is helpful

Do i use bleach be i use this cuz i have dark brown hair

Asked by: Pimam420
This is a deposit only color formula. This does not lighten the hair. It puts color on the hair. Example: If you have blonde hair and apply dark brown, it will make the hair brown. If you have brown hair & apply black, the hair will be darker. If the hair is black & you apply light brown, the color will not show.

Permanently... no. But for a very long time, yes. There are ways to remove color when you are ready tho. Reds and blues tend to hang on the longest.

Do I have to bleach first then deposit for more vibrancy ?

Asked by: Roxy1923
In one breath I'd say yes, because the lifted (bleached hair), would indeed make it bright. In the other breath I would suggest just keep re coloring it with the semi permanent, its not damaging, until you see the vibrancy you want. The latter would my choice personally, Having tried both, its not worth it to me to bleach my hair because its so damaging. Hope that helps a little bit

does this semi permanent dye require developer?

Asked by: kristy a
The semi permanent does NOT require developer. It is the demi permanent that requires #10 developer. Both boxes look very similar so people often confuse the two. The semi washes out faster than the demi.

Asked by: ReynaG1983
I was asked to comment on Ion Color Brilliance semi-permanent color, but I don't think this would be the right product for what you want to do. This product doesn't have any peroxide. I doubt that it would cover your dyed red hair, and I would be afraid that putting blue on top of red would make the hair purple.

If you have been using the darkest of semi permanent color one should stay with the darker permanent color as well. If your considering a total new color then that’s another topic.

I use to use Demi permanent Argon color 5N and 4R...I want the ion brand and don’t know what colors to use. And, a developer as well.  Please advise?

Asked by: RosalieB
I have used Ion brand for over ten years with perfect results. I used burgundy brown semi color and did not need a developer. My hair was a rich dark burgundy with red highlights. However, in the summer I mixed burgundy brown demi color with an Ion hot red, more emphasis on the red with #30 developer. My hair was more red with rich highlights. Hope this helps.

I've never used semi permanent do I need to use developer or do I just use it out of the tube?

Asked by: michelle993ok
Honestly, it depends on if you bleach first and how light, and how intense you want the color. The developer makes the color go further (the tube last longer), can lighten the shade some, but will make it take better so it doesn't rinse/wash out as quickly.

What would be the equivalent of Level 6 natural brown demi or semi permanent color?

Asked by: OtherLisa1968
Demi permanents are easy to find a level 6 because the color would be labeled 6N for level 6 natural. However, for ion's semi permanents, I recommend either medium warm brown. If that's too dark, mix in some clear to sheer it out and if it's too light you could mix in some black.

What does the clear one do?

Asked by: Missfrancine
The clear from ion, as well as for any other brand, is basically just to add & or boost shine in your hair when mixed on it's own. If mixed with another color it will reduce the color intensity. I hope this helps you out

How often can you use this product? I just recently went brown from having blond hair for two years. I’ve only went to a hairdresser and I used this product and loved it to darken my brown hair but I don’t want to damage my hair even more.

Asked by: Kaylalynn7
As often as you want. Semi permanent color can’t damage your hair because it is essentially a stain and does not contain any agents that allow it to penetrate the hair. I use mine after about every 6-8 shampoos.

what's the difference between semi and demi permanent color

Asked by: sherry54
Demi permanent lasts longer, but leaves a discernible color line so everyone can tell you've colored. Semi permanent only lasts 6 or so shampoos, and does not leave a line. It washes out slowly and looks more natural as it washes out. It also does not damage your hair as much as demi or permanent color.
