Rated 5 out of 5 by from very cute I bought 2 thinking it wasn’t gonna be enough but one was plenty for medium length hair with thin hair. The color was a brown caramel toned but nice in the sunlight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The natural blonde is beige not brassy I bought this a while ago and tossed the box so when I put it on my over-bleached hair (it was totally white), I added 10 vol developer and mixed 1:1 and applied. Only AFTER I had this sitting on my head for 10 mins did I read online that you don't mix this with developer! Thankfully, it still worked and I now have a nice, natural blonde tone that is pretty and beige, not brassy. The Natural Blonde formula will give white hair a nice, natural blonde tone. I just hope it lasts a while!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the money! I wanted a change so I bought the Radient Raspberry. I followed the directions to the letter (which made no sense to put on wet hair, but who am I to argue.), let it set for 30 min and rinsed it out. Imagine my surprise when my hair went from brassy blonde to brassy blonde with pink highlights. In other words it didn't take to my hair at all. I wasted my money and for what?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mocha Brown is no longer available?! I would rate this product 5 stars, except Mocha Brown, the one brunette color in this product line that looked good on me, is apparently no longer available. :-( It was a nice cool brown. Warm browns just don’t work for me, and I’m not interested in reds, plums, etc. Just a basic, cool-toned brown. Why, oh why, did you discontinue it?!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Plum means Red I guess This product is red. On virgin light brown hair and on bleached lightened hair it is not purple in tone. Color lasted around 4 washes.

Will plum or the burgundy show up on medium to dark brown hair? Even in the sunlight?

Asked by: Marialynn
I bought both of these colors. I have only tried the Burgundy Brown and it has come out amazing. It lasts me about 2 weeks and I wash my hair every other day. It does fade each day, but by about day 5 I really like the shade. Can't wait to try the Plum.

Will medium warm brown work and lighten my dark brown hair?

Asked by: Alejandra Ramirez
Unfortunately, semi permanent color will not lighten your hair only deposit color. It's best to go to a salon to have them lighten. If your hair has never been color treated or chemical treated then you could get permanent color in a lighter shade and it will lighten your hair. If your hair has been colored before the results will vary and you will want to see a professional.

I have blond hair that hasn't been colored in over 9 years and it is on the thin side. With the harsh weather and how thin my hair is, I'm worried it will damage my hair like other colors did in the past. I am I worrying too much??

Asked by: RachRawr
There is zero chemicals in it. You don't mix with any peroxide, this goes straight on your hair, should not do any damage what so ever.

Can you use it for lowlights?

Asked by: Botty1980
I am not sure, I get these questions because I buy so much as I am allergic to permanent. It's wash out so just try it, wash about 5-6 times it will be gone if it's not what you want.

Can I leave it in overnight?

Asked by: Starbabylondon
No you would not want to leave any hair dye in overnight. It’s very drying and damaging to your hair- whether semi perm or permanent. Follow the instructions carefully! Good Luck!

What is the purpose of a clear color? What does it do?

Asked by: Pattymel
Clear color can be used for two purposes. One is using the clear alone to add gloss to your hair. Basically the clear treatment fills porous space in the hair strand creating a more shiny appearance. The other purpose is to dilute a bold semi permanent color to create a lighter or pastel color.

Is it possible to just do highlights, or an ombre with this?

Asked by: lilianoemi2006
Yes! I use it for root touch ups between colors and use a comb to extend it down through my hair and blend. It is thick enough to do this with and comes with a fine point applicator tip to be able to control it to the areas you want to color.

Do the semi-permant dyes "black" or "blackest black" come out with purple/blue/green undertones? I have brown hair and do not want any colored undertones to appear.

Asked by: gracie18
I'm a working professional and I couldn't have colors. I use blackest black. It's just black. No other color undertones.

How much of the tube should be used for the first time?

Asked by: calliffy2
Depends on how much hair you have. If you're not diluting it then it'll just need to be enough to cover the amount of hair you're dyeing. Thats something that's a little more trial and error. Better to have a little to much dye than not enough.

If I use this over brown or blonde will my blonde come back after 12 washes?

Asked by: Sm000000
I haven't used the colors, but the browns & blonds fade a little after every wash - not too noticeable. My guess is that it'll take a little longer than 12 washes (depending on the # of coats & the type of shampoo you use).

With the Ion clear semi permanent dye having a strong odor like developer in it, is it damaging? The ones I bought smell like developer. I bought more than one tube and all have a strong smell.

If I have naturally dirty blonde hair that can lift without bleach and I use the natural blonde, will this add shine and make my color more uniform and shiny?

Asked by: Ceecee R
It will add shine and make your hair softer and more manageable. As long as you apply your hair color evenly it will look great !! I use a hybrid of two colors ; I mix them together and apply evenly . Always apply more color than you need to ensure full color saturation and evenly distributed ( especially if you have long hair ). With a semi color you can use a comb to apply color threw the hair strands . ( but never use with bleach !!)

I bought a few tubes of the Ion clear semi permanent and a few tubes of the black semi permanent. All of the clear ones smell like developer are in them but the black semi permanents don’t smell strong like that. What is the difference in ingredients?

Asked by: NaturalGirl1
I have not tried the clear semi permanent but the reason I use the black semi permanents is because I am allergic to p-phenylenediamine (basically regular hair dye) and so far this is the only product I can tolerate. Perhaps this is the reason for the difference in smell.

I know this semi-perm color doesn't require developer, but CAN I use developer if I want to lift my current color a bit? I've considered doing a quick bleach bath beforehand instead, but I'd prefer to just mix in a 20 or 30 if possible

Asked by: MrsKroll
I would bleach or lift your hair color first. Developer in the semi permanent color will only dilute the color intensity. I learned this from several youtube videos that conditioner and developer in semi perm color doesn't produce the color level you may want.

Asked by: Maria cg
No, you do not mix Ion Semi-Permanent with peroxide. It only lasts about 4-5 shampoos and the idea is to apply it about once a week. Remember the old ladies who get a "shampoo and set" at the salon? They use this stuff rather than permanent.
