Rated 3 out of 5 by from Platinum Lace I used this to match the varied gray roots in the back of my head to my already white on the top and the front. It is very ash toned with a violet cast. It did cover all my hair, however I expected brightness rather than ash tones which is aging, and not good for me. Perhaps the wrong color was chosen with the staff help.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible I bought this in 'Lavender Moon' because I wanted a slight lilac hue. I used it along with the 10 v. ion developer it reccomends on my level 8~ hair (that I had bleached 3 times beforehand) and my hair came out green. I had to bleach it again to get the ugly muddy green out and i was left with level 9 hair. I obviously didn't learn my lesson because I believed my hair was light enough... it wasn't. This time I used 30 vol. because the box said it would provide a slight lift and because its the only developer I have. My hair turned out dark green. I had no choice but to wait a few days and bleach it again. I had to bleach my hair 5 times and I guess I'm lucky cause my hair never broke or became gummy. Would not reccomend. I wouldn't even test it out on my now level 10 hair. Just turns your hair green and it sucks :( I would reccomend Wella T18/T14 if you have level 9/10 hair. Beautiful silver ^^

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coverage and excellent shine I used the platinum lace on my uneven 9/10 bleach job and it came out better than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks to another review on here I was able to pick out the correct color that I wanted. I wanted cool grey/silver... and thats what my hair is! I started out with dry hair and used 20% developer and processed for 30 minutes. In the picture, the right image is what I started with and the left is just after I toned it. Note: my hair is still a little damp in the after pic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ion snowcap toner Better than any other brand I’ve tried, this product is easy to use and consistently removes the excess yellow in my hair. I choose this color because the result is less blue/purple.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy I bought the lavender moon toner a few days ago and it did nothing but make my hair dry, which I've never had a problem with. Before going blonde a few months ago my hair was red for 6 years and I bleached it, and it still was as healthy as dyed hair could be, and this destroyed my hair, I'm furious because I don't think there is any way to repair the damage this did.

Which ion toner works well for orange? And which one works well for yellow?

Asked by: Bebee007
I would not want to steer you in the wrong direction so I'll just share my experience. I have natural level 8 blonde hair and I like to color it a pale beige level 10 blonde. I use the ion bright white creme bleach on my roots and they turn a yellowish orange color. I've tried a ton of toners and the best for me has been the Snowcap toner. It has a blue ash tone. At first my hair is more gray than I like so I wash it with a clarifying shampoo then follow with the john freida violet shampoo and conditioner. After 2-3 washes it is a perfect pale beige blonde and looks natural! I also have found the natural blonde toner has blue and cancels orange but it will definitely turn your level 10 hair to a darker blonde tone. Maybe try this if you really messed up with your first attempt!

I bleached my hair, and now it’s three different colors , I’m not sure what to do to darken it , would using a toner and a dark dye work?

Asked by: Janet333
Be careful using any toners with the word “ash.” If you use a toner and dye your hair dark you risk turning it green. My suggestion would be to apply bleach to the darker areas , try to lighten it to the closest shade as the rest of the hair & then apply a dark non ash dye a few days later. You may need a friend to help. Or use this as an opportunity to do a crazy color like blue :P

I bleached my hair twice already and it’s still super orange! Will this help tone it well? I’m trying to get to a dusty/pastel pink. Help!!!

Asked by: Mary Mary 88
The cream toner is better on your hair but depending on how dark it is, there may be more needed to bring it up. Use 40 volume toner and the purple shampoo for blondes will help tone down the brass. I have platinum color and it keeps out the brass. Also you may want to rest it a couple of days.

It is not advised that you mix a toner and a demi permanent hair color together. Use the toner of your choice, following the directions to correctly tone your hair.

What toner and developer level should I use if the majority of my hair is silver with like slight lavender tint but my roots are like a level 8/9 blonde if I want it all to be silver?

Asked by: Ryan9777
In general, toners use a 10 volume developer. Pick the toner that is most likely to help you achieve a silver result. Perform a strand test on a small 1 inch portion of your hair to see how the toner will develop on your hair before applying to your whole head.

What toner and developer do I use to take out brassiness if I want to keep my color around ion 7A permanent colored hair

Asked by: SupperMarie
20 developer would be besting that situation, however using purple shampoo followed with deep conditioning should do the trick. Overtone brand also has 4 different types of toning conditioner, catered to different types of color correction and those are definitely worth the try as well.

Depends on the degree of lift and orangey / brassiness. You may have not lifted enough of the color and if that is the case. No amount of toner will work.

I'm trying to go from light/medium brown to a "dirty" or medium blonde I have bleached my hair but which toner should I use the bleach has made some orange tone in my hair will this work? Or should i just go over it with a medium blonde dye?

Asked by: Salynn25
Hair dye will not life the orange. Bleach will lift, but it sounds like you just need a good toner if the hair is at the "level" of lightness you want. Hair is measured by levels. Like a dark blonde is an 8 while a platinum is a 12. Depending on what level your "orange" is will depend on how much a toner can help. If you have orange, a purple/lavender toner will deposit color with a 10 developer. If you use a 20 developer, the toner may lift and I would suggest applying it to the areas that need the most "help" before applying to roots. Remember, roots always process faster because of the heat from your scalp. Good luck. Brad Mondo on Youtube has some great videos that explain everything you would ever need to know about bleaching hair:)

The tube, inside the box, is labeled hair color. I'm guessing they use the same tube for all dye and toner, during production. I always double check the stamp, near the cap of tube, to ensure I have recieved the correct item.

I had a balayage done in December with red and had it toned once again with red, since I’m practicing social distancing the red has faded and now my hair has a copper/orange-ish color and I’m curious if any of these products will help cover up the orange

Asked by: bella71_
You would be better off using a blue or purple stain added to your shampoo to tone down the orange. The bright whites will melt your hair by the time you get to the color your looking for if your not careful. The reds and oranges really stay in your hair.

Do this help bring out the original grey in hair

Asked by: Woodard57
I normally use toners after coloring blonde to keep the color from becoming brassy. It worked well, but didn't stay on as long as my usual toner (Wella). Since it is a toner, I think it should work on natural gray to keep it from becoming dull. Lately, I've been using color-depositing conditioner to maintain color (ash blonde/gray) and blend in roots.

Try to buy Color Oops, Extra Strength preferably..before bleaching again. It is not damaging like bleach and will remove all semi and permanent dye. You can tone or dye your hair right after use without worry of your hair falling out or feeling like hay.

Asked by: Kathyrem
Toner should be mixed with 10 or 20 developer depending if you need to lift lightness level. I’d suggest 20 developer to lighten 1-2 shades. Make sure whatever you’re trying to turn this color is pre-lightened.

My daughter had her hair bleached and it’s very yellow... she wants an ashy blonde. What toner/developer should she use?

Asked by: Morgan68
It depends on how ashy she wants it. I used to use Wella Ivory Lady. Some people would mix Ivory lady with White lady but I never tried. I recently bought pale platinum with a brass kicker. My hair had white roots and orange/yellow body this time of bleaching. the mixer made it more light platinum gray not white. I only left it on for like 5 or so minutes because it was burning my scalp plus I was scared it get too dark. After it dried it is too dark for me because I was going to dye it purple but I know it will fade in time. It looks like I dyed my hair gray if she wants that then try that one. Just google Wella Ash timers so she can see what she likes.  Just remember the color is not going to look like the models it might be a little darker.

I am a lvl 6-7 post bleached hair and got the Modern Biege toner. Was hoping to get the brassiness out by toning with 20 dev. I also read Wella T14 was another alternative. Should I go ahead with the Modern Beige or get the Wella to tone my hair?

Asked by: QuarantinedHair
It depends what color you want your hair, the wella.  N(neutral) 10  takes away brassy and makes for a prettier blonde.  Beige tones are subject to brassy just because if the nature of the toner.

Have you tried using the purple shampoo and conditioner? I would be afraid of putting more product on your hair. It may over process it. Try using the Clariol Shimmer Lights shampoo and conditioner. Leave it on your hair for 5-10 minutes... it should help tone it down.

I need a toner or something to take the yellow out of my gray hair.

Asked by: Ocean waves
Use purple shampoo and/or conditioner to get yellow out if you want to be gentle on your hair but it will require more frequent  maintenance (once or twice a week). Blue tones cancel out orange colors, so if your hair has yellow tones then the blue will turn it green (yellow and blue makes green). Purple cancels out yellow. You'll have to experiment with toners to get the shade you want, but keep in mind the color wheel and find the complementary color to cancel out any unwanted shades. Also keep in mind that you'll need to use a developer (peroxide) with any toner product to deposit the color otherwise it will wash out in your next shampoo.

Which shade of Ion should I use for my hair that is orange at the scalp then runs like an ombré color to platinum silver? I jus need to correct the orange tone to match my platinum color to be one whole color shade

Asked by: Sojianna
You might need to lighten the roots more.  When you lighten your hair will go from brown to: red, red gold, gold, yellow, pale yellow.   It has to be pretty light for a toner to do much.  If it is light enough ??? , Example....yellow, red, and blue make brown.    If you’re hair is orange ( yellow + red ) you would add something in the blue color family to make it brown.....   If your looking for platinum. Which is actually a purple color ( red + blue ), you already have red, so you want to neutralize the yellow and add blue.  Look directly across the color wheel for the color that will neutralize yellow.  It’s violet / purple.  You already have the red in there,  ( purple - red = blue ).   So add BLUE.

My hair is bleached out now I want it white. Do I go with icy white or snow cap? I want it the color of paper

Asked by: AngelaP8813
It depends what undertone your hair is now & what level of blonde has been achieved. You need a level 12 blonde to get close to paper white. These toners are very pigmented, which makes it easy to overtone your hair. Snow Cap is very green undertone (neutral). It gave my hair a greenish tint. Icy White is blue undertone. I use Lavender Moon w/ 30 Vol white developer and my hair is a bit silvery at first. After a couple washes it's back to baby blonde. I would suggest toning hair while it is damp. This will tone more evenly and help prevent over-toning.
