Rated 5 out of 5 by from worked like a charm I am not a pro but I bought this to enliven my toner between salon visits. I want platinum hair but it tends toward gold. This stuff worked great! I used the Platinum one in a 1 to 1 ratio. I left it about 12 minutes because it started to freak me out how white it looked. I could have gone the full 15 and been fine. It really eliminated the gold. Better than the stuff my stylist uses! I liked the sample of the modern beige and might actually try that sometime. I’m hooked! I might even have to pick a pink or violet sometime. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tips for better results! I learned this from a famous stylist years ago. If you want to obtain long-lasting results when using a demi-permanent (like this toner) you shall first wash you hair at least twice and DO NOT use conditioner! Let your clean hair dry completely (forget the damp hair) and then mix the product 1 + 1 using10 developer. Apply the product with the hands (no combing) in small sections and wait 45 minutes. You may wash one more time and apply your conditioner as usual. I guarantee you that the results will be stunning! I used the Modern Beige on my faded highlights and I really love it! Good luck ;-)

I am naturally silver grey with brighter silver (also natural) around my face. Rogaine has stained some of my hair a horrible yellow color, and none of the blue or purple shampoos seem to help. Can you recommend something to get rid of these stains?

Asked by: SandraEllen
I use old fashion prep shampoo, which is not a Sally’s product but works really well stripping hair. It is safe and can be used everyday. After u have stripped the discoloration off your hair, you could use any of the toners to brighten up your shades.

I have dark brown hair with bleached ombre with reds color. The bottom is turning orange..... I bought this to use on my daughters hair but she was to nervous for me to do it. I was wondering how my hair would turn out if I did an all over? Yikes??

If you use any developer that’s higher than a 5 vol it will potentially lift/lighten your hair.  You are better to pick out the pieces you want to tone OR do your whole head with a low volume developer - which will be deposit colour only with no lifting.  I am not a professional, just have learned from experience.

I have blonde hair now but I want more of an icy white look. How can I get my hair to look whiter?

Asked by: Emjokline
Depending on how light your hair is a violet based toner with maybe 10 volume and the usage of a purple shampoo will do the trick. I have platinum blonde hair and use bleach and toner on my roots and everything every few months and I have really minimal damage. You can’t have any yellow or orange or it will show through. The snow cap one is okay, I like to add the violet intensifier sometimes. I prefer other brands personally.

Asked by: Shygirl1
When I used it, it really didn't help take out that orange/yellow color. To get rid of that, the Wella brand toner with the purple shampoo helps a lot.

I have a level 10-11 blonde hair color would either ice cap or icy White work without have to bleach it I want to end up dying it a pretty purple but don’t want to bleach it.

Asked by: Pollyanna2
I’ve only used snow cap, but my favorite thing about these toners is that they lift as well as depositing cool tones into your hair, so it took my hair from a warm toned light blonde to an icy silvery platinum blonde. So from personal experience, I’d suggest snow cap for what you want to do! However, if your hair is very damaged, I’d suggest going with a toner that just deposits color rather than one that is used with developer.

If I’m dying my hair blond what color toner should I use

Asked by: KylieW04
It depends what shade of blonde you want. That's how toners work. Lavender Moon gives a cool blonde, Spring Blossom is a more golden blonde, etc. Use the numbers on the boxes to look up results and go from there (Lavender Moon is T18, which is the same as the Wella toner that overtones to very purple-grey but I've never accidentally overtoned with Ion).

Asked by: SMarie28
If you use 20 vol it will blend with your gray. I used Modern Beige and it gave me a really nice color towards the blonde side. My hair is gray as well. I didn't bleach. I have been experimenting with toners since I stopped dying permanetely and so far this gave me a great color.

Shade description or photos of Natural Blonde? I can't find any online. Will it tone out brassiness and lots of red tones?

Asked by: ThatGirlJess
IM GOING TO GIVE A DESCRIPTIONS ON SOME AS I TRIED A FEW- SNOW CAP AND ICE WHITE TURNED MY BLEACHED HAIR GRAY- NOW WHAT I WANTED- I FEAR WELLA TONERS SO I CONTINUED WITH ION. WELLA IS TOO TRICKY AND UNEVEN, THESE ARE EVEN LAVENDER I HEARD PULLS GRAY LAVENDER AND DARK. I DIDNT BUY IT IM TRYING FOR AN ALL WHITE LOOK BUT THE AMOUNT OF BLEACH ON DARK RED BLONDE HAIR IS JUST TOO DAMAGING FOR MY HAIR. I AM A TRAINED COLORIST BUT HAVENT PRACTISED IN YEARS, I AGREE WITH OTHER POSTS BUT FOUND OUT OF ALL THE SHADES THE SAFEST TO USE IS SPRING BLOSSOM. NO PINK SHOWS UP. IT STILL KILLS BRASSINESS AND YELLOWS NO MATTER HOW LONG ITS LEFT ON IT STAYS WHITE PLATIMUM RANGE. WHICH I LIKE. IN FACT WHEN NOT USED AS A TONER I USE IT AS A DYE- I AGREE W ANOTHER POST THAT SAYS THIS IS CLOSER TO A DYE I THINK THATS TRUE BUT NOT QUITE AS DAMAGING. I USE SPRING BLOSSOM TO GET MY HAIR ALMOST WHITE BLONDE. FOR TPUCH UPS BETWEEN BLEACH I CAN USE 20 VOL PLUS SPRING B TONER LEAVE ON 30- 40 MINS TO ACHEIVE A NEITRAL NON BRASSY LIGHTIST BLONDE COLOR PLUS ADDED HIGHLIGHTS NEAR LAST BLEACHING DSO NOW I ONLY BLEACH MY HAIR 1-2X OR LESS A YEAR AND USE SPRING BLOSSOM ON ROOTS TO DYE IT BLONDE ASHY LIGHT BLONDE. FOR BLEACHED HAIR USE 5 VOL WATCH CAREFUULLY ITS STRONG YOU DONT WANT TO DAMAGE YOUR HAIR. IF YOU ONLY BLEACHED TO PINAPPLE YELLOW USE 10-20 VOL PLUS TONER WATCHING DEVELOPING OR BREAKAGE WILL OCCUR. I WONT UT ANYTHING ELSE IN MY HAIR BUT ION SPRING BLOSSOM(OCCASIONALY ION BLEACH_)

Asked by: Karan 66
It depends on your base hair color! If you have any yellow/ orange it will not work. If you are really white already it can turn your hair straight up blue or lavender. It's tricky, but as long as your base is even you should be ol. Use purple shampoo for a few washes before and after. That will help.

Asked by: dennise444
Yes. The people having problems are not professionals trained on the color wheel. I had no problems at all achieving a white and a rooted ash-natural blonde. Also, the results were very shiny! Almost wig shiny. The client I gave shadow roots still hasn’t needed a touch up and she normally pulls red/brass tones quickly. We only used 6 volume developer with these toners and mixed all 1:2. The results were shiny and more natural than Wella.

Asked by: Arithluna
Do a “conditioner bleaching”.  Mix some All Natural 100% Pure Coconut Oil to your hair first as a “barrier” almost. bleach to a Level 9. If you’re passing 50 minutes and you still aren’t developing past a level 7, you will require another bleaching season. You can try toning your hair with 1 part Wella T18, 1 part Wella T14 and 1 part Wella T28 with 6 parts 20 Volume Wella Developer or use Ion Bright White Creme Toner in the color “Ivy White”. It has a blue and purple base so it will void orange and yellow tones. When you want to conteract a color, use the Cosmetologists Color Wheel. Look for the color your hair is showing and the color directly across from it will nuetralize it. After your hair has oxidized and you have applied several masks, treatments, deep conditioners and reconstructors. If you still aren’t a level 9 or platinum. You did not lift enough or had too much lifting to do and the bleach got weak before it could finish processing your hair... hence- you must work quickly. (10-14 days later; Session Two) Apply the Coconut Oil “barrier”; be sure to use a lower volume developer  because this will require less time because you will only be lifting your hair a few more levels. The ideal level for platinum is to reach a Level 9- PERIOD! You will still need to time your hair. The down side to Ion’s creme toner and Wella’s is that you have to tone your hair more often when using the Ion Toner. ALSO, this toner you must use and all over color such as the Ion Brillance creme or liquid permanent hair color as well as Ion’s Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer in Volume 20. —-“Ion Color Brilliance Permanent Hair Color Additive” in the color ASH in a small blue box will give you Ash colored hair and counteract warm tones. The “Ion Color Brillance Permanent Hair Color Additive” in the color VIOLET in a small purple box. The violet intensifier will add more cool tones and remove unwanted warm or yellow tones in your hair.
