  • Pre-lighten the hair to desired level before applying toner. Mix 1 part Wella Color Charm toning color with 2 parts 20 volume Wella Color Charm developer. Apply to towel dried hair then, develop for up to 30 minutes. Check frequently to see if desired results are achieved.
  • You can customize the toner formula by intermixing shades. For example, if you want a shade that is in between an ash tone and a warm tone, try mixing equal parts of T-18 and T-14 with equal parts of T-11 or T-35.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No color change got this item out of excitement to get rid of my yellowish blonde haired, first bought T15 nothing happened my hair looked the same, I thought i would need a lighter color. I bought T10 and still no change to my hair.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don’t use on brown roots I highlighted my hair, but there were still a few dark blonde/light brown roots in parts of my scalp. I used t18 with a 20 developer. It lifted my roots up to an orange color. Parts of my highlights are violet and the rest is a more ash color, which is what I wanted (the Ashe). I wish I would not have put this on my roots because now my hair looks horrible on top! I thought by just highlighting and not bleaching my whole head and scalp that it would be less damaging on my hair but I didn’t know the toner would lift my darker blonde. Wish I would’ve just bleached all me roots and then toned!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tones hair really well! I have used this a lot with my blonde hair! It’s perfect for toning out any yellow tones. Careful not to turn your hair purple, but this is by far my favorite toner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Level 7 Orange-y Yellow hair to Strawberry Blonde I bought this for hair that has not been lightened enough (this probably should be used on Level 9), so I did not expect much, but it had some effect of toning it down. I used this with 20 Volume Developer. I did not keep the strawberry blonde, since it was not the look I was going for, but it was not bad at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Use something else! Used this “toner” to remove the brassiness on my highlights and it turned my roots orange. Not only that but the brassiness is still there and my highlights now have a pink undertone: I have dark brown hair so it looks horrible! i will never buy again!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Turned Roots Orange Be careful if you have a balayage! I used the toner the exact way it said to on the back of the box, with the 20 volume developer, and my roots turned orange. I have naturally medium brown hair and I have a blonde balayage and highlights, and I wanted to just touch up my hair because the blonde started getting yellow tones in it. When I asked the lady at the counter if it would damage my hair, she looked and told me that there was no way it would since it only distributes color and does not lighten at all since it is a toner. The color that it turned the blonde parts of my hair looks nice, but the orange just ruins it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect toner I have very dark hair that turns bright orange when lightened, and this in conjunction with Ion bright creme whitener make my hair a beautiful platinum blonde. I also use Ion absolute perfection booster to keep my hair from being fried. I only have to leave this toner on for 5 minutes with 20 developer for no purple, and perfect platinum.

I tried to add a dark gray color over my bleached yellow hair but it still looked kind of yellow. Should I remove the color before using this product?

Asked by: cassie2330
It depends on the dark gray color. If it was an oxidative dye (one that needs developer), or a direct semi dye. If your hair is that yellow though, you’ll need to lighten it more anyway - your hair has to be “inside of a banana peel” cream color for this to work. Like the color of cold butter. That is only what will take you to stark white, which you need for grey or it will look green.

Wat is 050. Sharon

Some people also use wella cooling violet as a dye to get silver/grey hair. Mixed as you would with the t18 toner.

can i use this with volume 10 developer if i am toned bayalage and do not want to lift any of my dark root areas?

Asked by: hannahhancock205
10 will still turn natural hair an unsightly color. Even 6 volume will. It has ammonia. The only way to tone sans lift is with a deposit only product, not something you mix with developer. Deposit only products include purple shampoos and conditioners and manic panic type dyes.

Can I use the t18 with a 30 vol Developer, which I already have, or is the 20 volume a necessity? How would the results differ between the two? Thanks

Asked by: sharona9396
It calls for 20 not 10. I’ve used both of those and also 30 when like you I only had it on hand and it was fine. You’re only leaving it on for a few minutes.

Does t18 bring bleached hair to its lightest?

Asked by: Lisahaney
It changes the tone not the level. Well that’s what it is supposed to do but due to its ammonia content it does lift a little - most notably on natural roots which it can turn orange. To be safe make sure your hair is first bleached almost white.

I was wanting to tone down the brassy yellow of my balayage but keep my darker ashy brown roots. This turned my whole head orange (T18, 20 developer). What should I do to reverse that, and still tone down yellows? Would purple shampoo work?

Asked by: Andrea2010
No, purple shampoo will not work. You have orange because you lightened your natural base color.. they only way to fix it, is to go in with the desired color while tryiing not to get it on the lightened areas.. This is best left ot a professional, I think it would be impossible to try to do it yourself

I bought this product and I was looking at the directions  and I know it says I have to use the developer With it… Is there anyway I could just use the toner by itself or should I for sure get the developer?

Asked by: Melodyxo
You for sure need a developer to mix in with it get a 20 volume
