  • Pre-lighten the hair to desired level before applying toner. Mix 1 part Wella Color Charm toning color with 2 parts 20 volume Wella Color Charm developer. Apply to towel dried hair then, develop for up to 30 minutes. Check frequently to see if desired results are achieved.
  • You can customize the toner formula by intermixing shades. For example, if you want a shade that is in between an ash tone and a warm tone, try mixing equal parts of T-18 and T-14 with equal parts of T-11 or T-35.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Toner I use this toner on my highlights immediately after processing. It looks like it darkens while processing but it takes the red out of my highlights since my haircolor has red. Instead of having orange highlights this toner delivers beautiful warm blond color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn’t get what I ordered. I would like to say good things but I wasn’t able to use it. I ordered bleach and 2 different toners. I didn’t receive any bleach I only got one if the toners and then was sent 2 boxes of red dye for brown hair that I didn’t order. After waiting 2 weeks just to get my package.

Dyed my hair a darkest brown and it’s almost black.  What toner should  I use to lighten it?

Asked by: HotBiscuit
Get a color remover it will lighten it to a dark orange color most likely and then get the ion color brilliance  bleach with a 20 vol developer  to gradually lighten your hair   Just keep watching it until it’s a pale yellow color then your able to dye it a different color but only use a 10 volume developer to deposit the new color

Can I use a 30 developer instead of a 20 for the toner?

Asked by: IcySpicy
Increasing to volume of developer I'll only make it process faster and cause more damage to your hair as it will open the cuticles up wider. Stick with 20. When you're using toner you want to watch it closely to make sure it's not get too toned.

I will be fully bleaching and toning my virgin hair. It's currently halfway down my back. How many bottles of toner should I buy?

Asked by: Whatdoineed
Considering the ratio is 1:2 and the bottle is 1.4 oz making a total of 4.5 oz when mixed with developer I would suggest 4-5 so you can completely saturate your hair! :)

I have redish brown hair that I bleached and now is blonde with an orange tint to it.  I have used T18 on my hair and left it in for 30 mins and still has a orange tint to it. What toner should I try now?

Asked by: Orange hair DO care
Try using the wella t14, the t18 will only be effective if your hair is a level 10/color of the inside of a banana peel. T14 on my yellowish/light orange hair gave me a really nice ashy blonde!

What is the best color for someone with Natural medium blonde hair color and they want it lighter?

Asked by: Susan1970
This will not make your hair lighter. It is a toner. It changes the tone of already lightened hair. This color is used after a bleaching service.

I used Loreal Color Out on my dyed dark brown hair, then used t18, light ash blonde. All the dark brown is gone but hair is blonde as opposed to the silver I want now. My hair all white under this toner. Any help is sure appreciated.

Asked by: wannabe silver
T14 will give you more of a blue/silver color you are probably looking for. Also there is a color additive well makes called 050 and that adds more silver too. You can add the 050 to the T18 or the T14 for a more silver result.

How light does your hair have to be to use these?

Asked by: Kriskat38
Very light. A level 9 or 10. Basically after lightening the hair, your hair will be a pale yellow with no orange. If you’re hair is darker than that you might try a demi permanent level 8 in ash.

I recently stripped my hair of its red color and it's now at about a level 7-8 blonde, but very golden/brassy. Will T11 help cancel that out and make it more of a natural, cooler blonde? Will it work on hair that's not super light, like after bleaching?

Asked by: MikaylaM
A little late answering but yes. This particular toner works very well.

My level is a very gold 9 would the t14 correct it?

Asked by: Janey159
If you were lighter than a level 9, I’d say probably, but a 9 might be a bit deep for T14 and not make much difference. I would try T27.

i have brown hair with highlights and the highlights are brassy what toner would help with that the best

Asked by: emily233
Keeping in mind that the toner will not lighten them but only change the tone, choose one similar to the lightness level of your highlights but a key word of ash or violet. As long as it’s a toner and you use 10 vol developer, you should be able to put it over all of your hair.

Is this a hair color? And can you use on hair that is frosted?

Asked by: shona1963
It is a hair color toner. It is meant to tone pre-lightened “bleached” hair. Use the color chart to determine what shade will work best to tone your specific color of pre-lightened blonde hair.

Asked by: Lilmomma1107
I had red hair and you MUST try the Color Fix hair color remover by one'n'only first, then bleach, then use toner. It was a perfect transition to blonde for me and less harsh on my hair.

What does a toner do? Do I use something else with it

Asked by: Linda352
A toner is a color depositing treatment. That means it does not lighten - if you want a lighter shade, you have to pre-lighten (think bleach). A toner deposits other shades to balance out reds/oranges/etc so that you end up with a nice variation of color on the level of lightness your hair already has. It can also do glossing (shine).

I got High lights done that are not very well blended .. I think I need to get this for my hair to “tone down the color” right ? Apply to whole head ? Thanks

Asked by: KateLyn h
I see its been 2 months this was posted, but maybe this could help another. Toners are amazing and with the right combinations and watchful eye, can take just a few minutes to perfect a would be debokled [?] hair coloring.. For instance one could apply: A Wella Color Charm with 10/20 vol cream with Clairol 30,or 35, i cant recall exactly, but apply to wet hair just as you would apply bottled hair color; I recommend applying it thoroughly and quickly distribute it throughout the entire head. I typically worked it through with a mild shampoo. So, as soon as that is done, watch it change within your fingertips ... keep working it gently and AS SOON AS ITS THE DESIRED TONE.....WASH THAT HEAD!!! I RECOMMEND CONDITIONING YOUR HAIR PRIOR TO ANY CHEMICAL PROCEDURE. Find a good "Conditioning Shampoo" or Shampoo & Conditioner that work for you. The KEY to good hair; is finding the professional hair products that work for YOUR HAIR. Sorbie for instance works amazing with my hair texture and so forth. But for someone else, it might weigh down their hair. I used ipsy for more than 2 years and I gotta say it is SO WORTH signing up; unless of course, you have money to burn or work in the industry and already have established all the products you need. I found it amazing because of the, new to me, product lines, the vast array of products that arrive much larger than you'd imagine. From Hair masques, to pore cleansers, coconut and waterfall leave in hair conditioners. To every thing makeup, skin health and sunblocks, its fun and i now have a solid base of products that work for ME. I gotta say, when it comes to understanding color and having worked in the industry for years obsessed with hair coloring, I will forever carry these amazing little, simple really, hair coloring techniques, fixes if you will and I wish I could see your hair and share whatever I thought would get you the result your looking for, or what I think would be the trick. I really miss working in the industry so much. Its always so Exciting, styles evolve and change, fashion and hair are so much fun.

If I want to get rid of my brasiness hair color what toner do i use?

Asked by: Letty Al
I would look at the T14 and/or T11 to try. I have very dark brown hair and when I used the T14 it really helped to make it less brassy. T11 also did a good job. I highly recommend while toning to use the Absolute Perfection part 1 and after part 2. It really made my hair so much better.

I have 60 percent gray hair light brown salt pepper on the remaining. What can I use to get all over platinum color?

Asked by: Marilyn78
Your grey hair would lift to platinum with the wella t18 toner, but the rest of your hair is too dark to lift just with toner from the way you describe it. It would need to be bleached to a very light, soft yellow, like the color of the inside of a banana, before toning. From the way you describe your hair it seems like the brown parts are scattered throughout. Because of that, you may want to see a professional for this procedure. If not, you'll definitely want someone to help you, because picking out individual, dark strands of hair and bleaching them is a very meticulous process.

Will Wella toner T18 mixed with T11 make my white hair whiter, or gray? Is 5 minutes long enough or 10 min?

Asked by: MarMarJane
First of all it depends on what level your hair is when you apply it. T18 by itself will be will be pretty ashy especially if left more than 10 minutes. Adding some T11 helps it not be as ashy.
