  • Pre-lighten the hair to desired level before applying toner. Mix 1 part Wella Color Charm toning color with 2 parts 20 volume Wella Color Charm developer. Apply to towel dried hair then, develop for up to 30 minutes. Check frequently to see if desired results are achieved.
  • You can customize the toner formula by intermixing shades. For example, if you want a shade that is in between an ash tone and a warm tone, try mixing equal parts of T-18 and T-14 with equal parts of T-11 or T-35.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not buying again I’ve heard good stuff about this product so decided to try it. I had gotten a balayage done months ago and needed to tone it but my salon centric was closed so I stopped by Sally’s and picked this up. I am a licensed cosmetologist so I know how to do the ratios for it well this stuff messed my hair up, a toner is not supposed to lighten your hair. I used t18 which is very light and it turned some of the dark brown in my hair blonde never using again that is not supposed to happen

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Took a chance - loved it! I read SO many reviews/watched videos before trying T18 on my brown hair w/ blonde highlights. Did highlights myself, didn't leave bleach on long enough, ended up with brassy orange highlights. I was so scared that T18 would turn my highlights white, or lighten my brown base colour. Finally did it this week and I love it. I mixed it with a 20 developer, left it in for 20 mins (could have gone another 10 mins) and my highlights turned a very natural ashy blonde that blended really well with my base colour. They darkened a bit, which for me was great. In case you're not sure whether to try it, I say go for it. So glad I did! Also - only used about a third of the bottle so more for next time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Toner! My new favorite toner! -I mixed it with developer (20 v) and it lifted almost all of the brassiness from my recently bleached/dyed hair, giving it the ashy/silver look I wanted. I love that this is a liquid and not a powder, definitely feels more fool proof that way and makes for less of a mess. -My hair is a pit purply blue towards the front but those bits were almost pure white already so that was to be expected. My roots were left a bit yellower than the rest so hopefully another round of toning will fix that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved the day I'm a natural dark blonde (level 7 or so) and have had my hair bleached platinum at the salon for years now, but I have never tried to do it myself. Well, in the days of DIY covid hair, I thought I'd give it a try...disaster! Two separate bleaching sessions later, my hair, far from being platinum, was a hideous, shocking neon yellow. Sooooo I went to my local Sally store and they suggested Wella Color Charm T18 toner. Such a huge improvement - while it still isn't quite the platinum I was looking for, it's at least in the realm of a pale yellow/blonde color someone might choose intentionally! I only left it on for 20 mins as my hair is a super short pixie and I was afraid of the sides turning purple - next time I think I'll leave it for the full 30 mins, and it should be perfect!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Might wanna put it on the label I ordered this toner to put on my hair after bleaching it. It was a total waste of money because you have to buy developer to go with it. So I have toner that someday when I get the money to purchase developer i may be able to use!!!

how do i know what toner to buy? if i use 7N and 7NA color does that help you recommend?

Asked by: chris926
Depending on how the color turns out you may not need toner. Toners help counteract brassiness or add another layer of color to your look to help your hair look more gold, neutral or silvery. A 7N is a neutral base and a 7NA has a neutral and Ashy base. First decide which color you prefer, then follow up with a toner that would best compliment that base of that tone if the color doesn't take exactly how you are expecting it to. For a more ashy tone pick a ash toner for a more neutral or natural base choose a natural toner. For professional advice on this product please contact the Wella Help Line 1-866-722-4146. I started with gray roots and some lowlights, put inspired by nature 8N on my hair, came out a lot darker than expected with brassy tones, went back to Sallys the girl suggested wella T35 toner... will this fix? darken farther? I dont want dark.

Asked by: LeslieBa
Hair color creates layers on top of existing hair color typically causing the hair color to be a little darker than intended. A good rule of thumb is to go one level lighter than your goal color. The toner will help to neutralize the brassy tones in your hair, however it may darken it slightly. SBS-800273 is a lighter beige blonde and has less of a chance of darkening it (if that is the tone that you want to keep). If you want a cooler tone T18 Lightest ash blonde will give a more ashy tone. If you are looking for a cooler tone in the Inspired by Nature hair color line you might want to try the mushroom blondes.

Asked by: tristanx
You could do a beach wash to lighten it back up. What level toner did you use? How long did you leave the product and was your hair damp when you applied the toner? I would do a test strip with the t18 once you get it lightened again.  Use 20vol developer and make sure your hair is damp.

IS THIS PRODUCT MORE LIKE A RINSE...OR DOES THIS REQUIRE CREME DEVELOPPER TO USE? I need some thing that isn't harsh on the hair or head because of my condition..would you recomment this,, or do you recommend some thing else? I am also gray

Asked by: CANCER PERSON
This product does need to be mixed with developer in order to apply correctly, the results will also last much longer than a temporary hair color rinse. Because I cannot see the condition of your hair I would recommend that you see professional advice from the Wella helpline for on this product. Please contact the Wella Help Line 1-866-722-4146. What does 2 to 1 mean

Asked by: Connie2440
1:2 is the mixing ratio of toner to developer. It means that you would mix Mix 1 part Wella Color Charm toning color with 2 parts 20 volume Wella Color Charm developer. For example if you only needed to use 1 ounce of Toner you would then mix in 2 ounces of developer in order for the color to apply as intended.

My natural roots are medium brown. I bleached them and lightened to a yellowish blonde color. Which toner would you recommend?

Asked by: Jpellot07
Always go with the ash blond to avoid yellow. I also add to it a few drops of violet additive to keep the yellowish away.

My hair is brown and gray. Will toning it help brighten up my gray?

Asked by: Sjw09555
Yes,if you use a silver toner.  Also, using a purple, not blue, shampoo will do the same thing.  If you do use one of the purple shampoos or a purple mask be sure to watch your time and not leave it on too long or your hair will be purple.  I use a purple shampoo about every three washes and lather it on and I don’t leave it on more than 1 minute and it really makes my gray hair look bright white.  Some people use the Silver Lights shampoo, but it is a blue shampoo and does not work like the purple shampoo.

so i used sun in hair lighter a few months ago. it turned my hair a ugly orange brassy tone. i don’t know whether i should dye it darker or what toner to use can someone help i am desperate

Asked by: anynomous
if you want an ashy blonde u can bleach it a little than tone it down with t11 and t18 mixed. if you want to dye it darker to like a dark brown just get some box dye but make sure to find the right shade bc a lot of pictures are way lighter than the actual result. its happened to me. you could tone the dark brown hair after dying but i say its not neccessary unless it comes out super orange. but first pick out what color you want to change your hair to and then do research on toning and maintaining it

Can I mix 1 bottle t18, with half bottle of t14 and half a bottle of t11? It would still be 2 parts toner - 4 parts developer. I’m just thinking the t14 and t11 might help with orange tones while the t18 boosts the blonde even more. Is mixing 3 toners ok?

Hi I got my hair done the other day and the top of my highlights and bangs are brassy compared to the bottom of hair that is an ashy blonde and my roots are brown... would those product work to make all of the blonde the same color?

Asked by: Sophia 24
So a toner will not necessarily make make all of your hair the same color but it will help with the brassiness that you are seeing in your highlights. When you are applying the toner be careful to apply where the highlights are. Use hair color foil to help separate your the highlights when you are applying the toner. Be sure to mix developer with your toner so that the toner will deposit correctly.

T10 or T18 will work, make sure your using a 20 developer, no higher, still not as good as wellas new line called blondor with the toner called pale silver..which you can’t buy yet because it’s only for professionals sadly.

You can use a toner with a blue base to tone down the orange. Try T14. Perform a strand test on a small section of hair with the toner to see the effects of the toner on your hair.

The color will not lighten and this toner will not help you. You can try a color remover to help lighten it and then start there.

Hi, I'm already completely bleached blonde, not yellowy(my hairdresser doesn't use toner on me) and I want a nice classic champagne blonde, like Marilyn Monroe.  I believe the T18 is the one but not sure which developer to use. Thank you!

Asked by: MindyLee10
T18 with a 20 developer. Leave on for 10-15 mins. You may have a slight purple tint at first but it'll wash out in a few washes and the outcome of the T18 is well with a purple tint for 3 days. Watch some YouTube videos about it. And good luck!

i’m going to dye my hair with blue bleach. Idk what toner to get for the color i want. I want a platinum blonde but not straight white, not too silver to where my hair doesn’t even look blonde. And i don’t want golden blonde hair. I need help deciding!

Asked by: annabanana04
T18 mixed with a 20 developer. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. You'll most likely have a slight purple tint at first but it'll wash out in a few washes and it'll look great afterwards. It gives you that almost white blonde look that every fake blonde wants lol.
