Rated 5 out of 5 by from STILL PERFECT, 2 YEARS LATER!! I am praying they don't discontinue this product! I have been using the Silk Elements Mild for two years now, and it's still just as perfect as the first time we met. I texlax my new growth every 4 months, and have no shedding whatsoever. I put coconut oil or whatever grease is lying around on the previously relaxed hair. Process for 20 minutes start to finish, smoothing only once. Rinse VERY VERY well, with the color indicator neutralizing shampoo. PERFECT RESULTS!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as the olive oil I only bought the product because I could not find the mild relaxer in the Silk Elements Olive Oil. I have used this product in the past and did not like it as much as I like the olive oil version. I was fortunate to find the olive oil version prior to needing a relaxer.

How can I relax my curls?

Asked by: Nira1979
This product will permanently relax (straighten) curly hair. Depending on how fast your hair grows, you would need to relax the new growth (only) every 6 to 8 weeks. Should you decide to revert to your natural curls in the future, you would have to cut the hair that has been permanently relaxed. Don't hesitate to consult a licensed professional.

Do I need to use an activator with this?

Asked by: Shereese
No activator is required. Just use a base like petroleum jelly on and around the hair line.

Where on the tub can I find the date of manufacture or the date of expiry for the relaxer?

Asked by: Nickybba
Nicky, I still have the same large Mild tub I purchased online 2 years ago! I keep mine under the Master Bathroom sink. Haven't had any problems whatsoever. When someone answered this same question for me 2 years ago, she said the Sodium Hydroxide (lye) gets stronger with time. I texlax my hair every 4 months; October, February, and June, new growth only (just retouched yesterday). I set my timer for 20 minutes start to finish, smoothing only once. It still doesn't get bone straight, and comes out perfect!

How often does this need to be done? Is it good for one day or a few weeks?

Asked by: lauraj5500
This type of product is not for those who have no knowledge of hair chemistry. I suggest having a professional do your first relaxer. The frequency of application depends on your individual hair growth and how long you can stand your hair not having straight roots. I only do touch ups every 8-10 weeks on new growth at the ROOTS ONLY, because my hair is already relaxed. If you have virgin hair, e.g., no chemicals of any kind, you would apply it to all of your hair the first time. You need to use a good neutralizing shampoo (NOT a regular shampoo) after rinsing the relaxer out of the hair (use very warm water and several rinses), otherwise the chemical will continue to straighten the hair, causing it to eventually break off or fall out. If you do not know how to use this chemical, do not do it. Maintenance: do not apply relaxer to the entire length of your already-relaxed hair each time you do a relaxer (this process is called a touch-up), as damage will be the result. You should NEVER overlap the application of relaxer on previously relaxed hair! I see women missing hair at their temples and with bald patches: the result of poor relaxer technique (or too-tight braids).

I just bleached my hair yesterday is there a certain amount of days, weeks, or time that I need to wait before doing something like straightening my hair at home?

Asked by: LenaLena
You usually don't want to use products like this on bleached or damaged hair. It is recommended that you wait 3-4 weeks to process your hair any further to avoid it falling out.

Asked by: Kat21311

From the month/year of your purchase, can someone please give an expiration date of the large tub. I CANNOT find the Mild anymore on the ground and debating when I need to order the tub for use in April, first week. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Asked by: Chelley803
I was just browsing and saw your question and while I can't give a specific answer, I can tell you that sodium hydroxide based relaxers get stronger with age while ammonia based relaxers get weaker with age.
