Relax & Color Q & A
Color expert Stacey Jones answers questions about coloring relaxed hair.
Q I want long-lasting color results for my relaxed hair. What can I use?
A

Sounds like you're ready for permanent color. While permanent color is just that—permanent—it has to be retouched every four to six weeks to cover new growth, and even permanent color can fade over time if it's not maintained with shampoos, conditioners and treatments specially formulated to preserve and protect color-treated hair. Permanent hair color can be used on relaxed hair but you must wait at least two weeks after relaxing.

Try: Silk Elements MegaSilk Permanent Hair Color System enlivens hair and covers grays with long-lasting, radiant color. This gentler, low-ammonia, cream formula is enriched with wheat protein to help protect hair during the coloring process. The kit also contains Silk Elements Pre-Color Treatment for even color coverage, and MegaSilk Moisturizing Conditioner to infuse hair with moisture, leaving it soft and shiny.

Q Is there any way that I can safely relax and color my hair on the same day?
A

You can relax and color your hair on the same day... but the only completely safe way to color just-relaxed hair is with semi-permanent hair color, which contains no damaging ammonia or peroxide. Semi-permanent color adds tone, but cannot lighten hair. The color lasts up to 12 shampoos.

Try: Go from gray to gorgeous with Beautiful Collection from Clairol Professional, or new Beautiful Collection Advanced Gray Solution. It combines direct-acting dyes and oxidative dyes, creating a semi-permanent formula that lasts longer. This SynAIRgy technology delivers a nearly demi level of permanency with gentle, risk-free color.
