How to make curly, wavy, frizzy and coarse hair super sleek!

Silky-straight hair is a sexy look that most of us love to wear! While achieving a sleek mane can take a bit of work, especially if your hair is thick, coarse or very curly, doing it right will achieve better and longer-lasting results. Here are some tips for turning your curly, wavy, frizzy or coarse hair into straight, smooth, sleek silk. You’ll find everything you need at SallyBeauty.com or at your nearby Sally Beauty store.

SMOOTH START: SHAMPOO & BLOW-DRY

No matter your hair type, proper blow-drying is the key to a smooth start.

Begin straightening your hair in the shower by using a smoothing or straightening shampoo and conditioner.

Try: Ion Straightening Shampoo and Conditioner if your hair is wavy or curly.
Blot your hair with a towel and apply a leave-in conditioner if your hair is wavy or fairly straight but coarse. Apply a straightening balm if your hair is curly. Then use a wide-tooth comb to gently detangle your hair before blow-drying.

Try: Beyond the Zone Straight Shot Straightening Balm.
For best results, use a professional ionic-ceramic blow-dryer with a concentrator nozzle attachment.
Aim the dryer nozzle down as you blow-dry to help close the cuticle layer and seal in moisture. Use a large-barrel, boar bristle, round brush with the dryer to smooth your hair.

Try: Ion Ceramic Round Boar Bristle Brush 3"
To stop frizz and prevent your hair from reverting back to waves, make sure it is completely dry!

curly:

For naturally curly hair, prep with a heat protection spray that optimizes the flat iron’s effectiveness. Use a conditioning flat iron that achieves high enough temperatures to straighten even the tightest curls. Try: Ion Heat Protection Straightening Iron Spray and the GVP 1" Ceramic Flat Iron

wavy:

For naturally wavy hair, prep with a humidity resistant thermal spray and choose a conditioning flat iron with a multi-temperature control allowing you to customize the heat to your hair. For fine waves, use a lower heat setting; for resistant waves, use a higher heat setting. Try: Beyond the Zone Turn Up the Heat Protection Spray and the One ‘n Only Brazilian Tech Flat Iron

frizzy:

For frizzy hair, use a smoothing serum that locks in moisture and seals the cuticle to resist humidity and prevent frizz. Use a flat iron with super-smooth, hi-tech ceramic plates that work with the serum to lock down the hair cuticle, which prevents frizz. Try: Macadamia Oil Hair Serum and the Ion One Stroke Perpetual Heat Flat Iron

coarse:

For hair that’s fairly straight but coarse, use a cream-formula heat protectant to seal in shine, prevent frizz and static electricity, and reduce the volume of coarse, thick hair. Select a flat iron with ceramic technology that delivers maximum heat and advanced heat retention without frying your hair.
