Rated 5 out of 5 by from Value for your dollar I switched to the Sally's brand when I realized it's less than half the price of the name brands, and works just as well if not better. A lot of the store brand stuff is really good. It's a staple for me.

I have black hair and I wanna dye it blonde what developer should I use.

Asked by: 000Jay00
Note that back hair is generally considered a level 1. Blonde is generally between 8-10. 10 being a blonde and 10 being platinum blonde. A developer will help lift your hair a certain amount of levels for instance 30 volume developer will help lift your hair to at least a 3 or 4 levels. With Black to Blonde hair your will usually need to lighten it multiple times. Lighten the first time with either 30 or 40 Volume developer, follow the instructions on your lightener of choice for ratios and processing time. Depending on how many levels your hair has lightened after that and your goal hair level you may want to follow up with a lower volume developer before turning to your color of choice.

So I have dark brown hair and I am trying to dye it a bright red without bleaching it. What hair dye do u recommend? Do I have to use a developer or does that ruin your hair

Asked by: Scully55119
With a permanent hair color you will need to use developer in order for the color to process correctly. Using developer is a chemical treatment that will affect your hair by lifting the color of your hair to allow the hair color to deposit. It really depends on what level of brown your hair currently is and what level of red you are trying to achieve with the red. For instance if the Red is a similar level to your own hair you would probably only need 10 volume developer. It is about 2 levels brighter than your current hair color use 20 volume developer.

What are the pros and cons of 10 vs 20 developer? I haven't dyed my hair in a while and don't remember which one I used. Thanks.

I believe most use 20 volume but it got to where the color would not grab on to my gray so I changed to 10 Volume. The 10 works better for my  color resistant gray.

If i have dark brown hair and i am trying to go burgundy. What volume would i need??

Asked by: ddavis05
I would use 20V because it sounds like you need to lift & brighten. 10V is pretty much deposit only.

My natural hair is a level 6. My goal is to achieve honey and caramel highlights. Will 10 developer and bleach do this?

Asked by: Linzzzyy
A 10 volume developer with lightener has the potential to lift your hair 1 level. If you want to go lighter than 1 level you will need to increase the volume of developer that you will be using.

If I put it straight into my hair will it lighten it?

Asked by: wonderinggirl
It is not recommended that you use developer directly on to your hair. 10 volume developer will provide some lift, typically one level of lift, when appropriately mixed with lightener or hair color.
