Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used this over 10 years! I love this developer. I have used 20 volume Creme developer over 10 years. I can mix this developer with my permanent hair color treatment and apply to my roots myself. I am not a professional. I have not had any type of training. Yet this is easy enough that a regular person can use this product without having a license. Thank you Salon Care. Thank you Sally Beauty for selling this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Go To Developer! I've used this developer for the past 15 to 20 years. Prior to that, I used the Clairol Lavender Developer because it kept my hair blonde and not brassy! But Clairol discontinued that formula years ago. (I still miss it). This developer also helps to lower the brassy coloring from my hair. I use the 20 volume because it leaves my hair so beautifully manageable. The 30 volume damaged my hair too much, causing my hair to be dry, dull, and brittle after dying. Consequently, I've always used 20 volume. I can get away with 20 volume because my natural hair is more of a dishwater blonde than light brown. I 'm extremely pleased with this developer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Volume 20 Creme Works as it should. I only buy the creme. I don't like the noncreme kind, drips down face and neck. This one doesn't.

How long do you You leave 20 volume on hair when lightning hair is it quicker than 30 or 40?

Asked by: LoveMiller
20 volume is good for depositing of color if you are trying to lightning your hair I suggest a 30 volume for lighting without damaging I try not to use 40 volume developer it can be very damaging to your hair if not a Licensed professional or experience with 40 volume developer

Is this ammonia free?

Asked by: JenPen22
No there is no ammonia in developer, but permanent colors contain ammonia. If you don't want ammonia I would recommend a semi permanent color and its matching developer. But remember semi colors only deposit they do not lift.

Do I mix this with something before applying on hair.

Asked by: Telitha m
Of course. You need to mix it with your color Example Clairol 40D 2oz with 2oz of the developer.

i have between medium to dark brown hair, what developer do i get?

Asked by: ghostydani
I also have brown hair and use 20 when I'm touching up my roots. My hair dresser lets me do that, and she is the one that told me to use 20.

How much developer do I mix with 2 oz of color? What is ratio?

Asked by: Cajun Queen
2oz is what I mix with L'Oréal Preference.  The amount recommended should be listed in the directions of the hair color.

what's the difference between crème and clear developer

Asked by: evie2222
Clear is a bit more liquidy due to ingredients & works a touch faster, so use caution. Creme works slower (normal labeled processing times), is thicker and is not as harsh on the hair cuticle.
