Rated 4 out of 5 by from Developer Yep, It's 40. It burns! But it does its job :) I'll probably go with the 30 next time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wasn’t expecting that... This says sensitive scalp, but my entire head tingled and kind of burned a little, until I washed it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product The last few times I dyed my hair, I had a bad reaction on my scalp. I thought my days of dying were over. Then I tried this product. I used the 40vol, because I was bleaching my hair (decided to go purple). I have very dark hair and it had henna on it. Well this developer, even at 40vol, wasn't obnoxious to use. I didn't get much of it on my scalp to be fair, but it worked at any rate. I wouldn't recommend putting 40vol on your scalp directly anyway, but the 30 didn't bleach my hair with the Olaplex in it. I think if it were plain it would have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this! It is very good to my scalp.. I bought this on a whim. I thought maybe it would help my scalp. Turns out it not only helped my scalp, I love it and I will be purchasing more. Great stuff!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Didn't expect it to lift this much! This was my first time bleaching my hair and since it's black I expected it to turn more of a light brown but my hair is so bright! my dream hair dye color might actually be achieved. It doesn't burn or hurt that much (specially since I had scabs on my scalp) it was all minimum and tolerable. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only developer I will ever use. I used to always use the Sally's developer (as recommended by the employee's) but it would not lift the hair as bright as I would like, however this developer along with the blue flash bleach is absolutely amazing and will turn virgin hair white. Great lift, great price, always get the bigger size!

My hair is kind of a dark brown. If I mix this with Pravana hair dye (wild orchid) will it change my hair to that colour?

Asked by: Peebs286
No, sorry. That's a two-step process and this product won't work for any of it. With Pravana, you don't need any developer, but you do have to bleach the natural color out of your hair first.

I want my hair to be dark burgundy and my hair right know is black how much should I use of this to get it burgundy?

Asked by: Mary2294
I have this product because I am a platinum blonde...I use 40 to lighten... if you're trying to lighten the black so the burgandy will take you might want to do it in two stages. It also depends on the texture, the length, and the strength of your hair and scalp. 40 is strong...please read the instructions for the product you are using to make it lighter first... the lift goes through stages also so leaving it on long enough matters but not so long you burn your scalp... then add the dark burgandy... you'll probably have better results.

My hair is a brassy orange as a result of red and has been for over a year. I would like to get rid of the orange completely and go into a lighter color. Would this product work? If so how do I use it and if not what can I use?

Asked by: Kipper17
The developer will only help if you are using a toner as well. Using a higher developer is meant to lighten, but not tone. If you are trying to get rid of the brassiness as well as lighten, I recommend using this at a 30 or 40 with a toner dye such as color wella!

I use med auburn (Garnier Ultra Reds) normally but go burgundy for fall/winter. Decided on purple this year, started with Manic Panic bleach, then med. purple that came out too dark. Will this lift a couple shades and how? Or is there another product?

Asked by: pmariades
This is just the developer, you will also need to purchase bleach to use with it. I wouldn't recommend for what you're looking for, it'll pull the color out and you'll likely end up with some kind of pumpkin orange result. If you're just looking to lighten your color a little, try shampooing with Prell, or other strong clarifying shampoo for a few days with hot water to open the cuticle. Should encourage it to fade a bit.

What is the difference between 10, 20, 30, and 40 developer

Asked by: amberaly
The volume number refers to the strength of the developer. For ex: 10 is the weakest and 40 is the strongest. I mix 10 or 20 with a toner after bleaching my hair. I mix 30 or 40 with bleach powder on my black, asian hair. If you have lighter or finer hair you may only need a 20 volume if mixing with bleach powder. Best thing is to do a strand test. Good luck

Can I just use the developer to lighten my hair without dying my hair

Asked by: Maria178
This by itself will not lighten your hair. You have to use a bleaching powder with the developer to lighten
