Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a no-brainer, really! I've been using this product for the past 10 yrs to achieve anywhere from the lightest platinum blonde to dark blonde, easily! My original hair color is a level 2 & I only use 15 volume developer from Blonde Brilliance to achieve anywhere from a level 7 to level 10. Only difference is the length of time I keep the bleach on my hair to process. Depending upon which level I want to achieve. I bleach my roots often since my hair is so dark & able to stretch out the box into 4 applications, instead of just 2 applications. Since there's 4 individual bleach packets, this is easily done & I'm able to process my whole head since I'm only processing my roots, especially since my hair is very, very thick. This product is easy to use & hair keeps tensile strength afterwards. I would recommend using Ion's Rapid Repair Kit or Ion Reconstructor Treatment Packette afterwards before any additional color service like toner, semi-permanent, Demi-Permanent, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great on dark hair. I ordered this when Sally's had the buy 2 get 1 free sale. And because, I cannot find the Clairol Liquid Lightener anymore. I used this to ombre my 20 inch wig. I used 30 crème volume and the whole box of lightener and foils. Also, I added Absolute Perfection to the mixture. It had a nice creamy thick texture ( lot of product left over). I got my desired look, with no damaged hair. Not bad for a first time use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Lightener Ever I’m so glad I found this. I started out with this weird orange like medium brown (right side I’m attached picture). I wanted a silver blonde. Of course, that means bleaching, right? With this, I was able to go from the brown to a BLONDE in about 45 minutes. No additional lightening weeks later. I also used the booster step 1 in it. My hair feels better after! Mind you, I had only dyed my hair about 3 times in 2017 and none in 2018 yet. So my hair was feeling pretty good already. I followed up lightening with my dye/toner and I have the result I wanted. In 2 steps. BAM! MAKE SURE YOU GET DEVELOPER IN ADDITION TO THIS KIT! If you use the booster, go a level up with your developer (if you normally use 20vol and add the booster, get a 30vol). This kit is very much worth the money spent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tell me I'm missing something... Purchased this as it was suggested by the sales associate. I was going the developer/lightener separates, however this box ended up in hand. Got home and did one go! Smell is overwhelming, very strong... I am now at the point where I believe I was supposed to buy developer separate with this. I was not informed of this upon purchase, and the second go I think I basically just threw money away and put up with this horrid scent. No color lift and nearly 2 hours wasted. (2 separate tries)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not to happy My hair already had biplane to it and I just wanted it to lighten the color. Well it did absolutely nothing I left it in my hair for 45 min. I am very disappointed and on top of that I could fine anything on YouTube. It didn’t come with gloves or even directions accept the little one on back of box that made no sense

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really loved this! I have naturally dark blonde hair that I dye platinum blonde from the salon. I can't afford to go to the salon every 2 months and spend $150 so I decided to try this instead. It works great, it lightened my regrowth to a very pale yellow color, which I actually really like. Next time Im going to try toning it with a violet toner (I forgot to pick one up). I used 20 vol as suggested in the directions and waited about 40 mins for it to process. I think I might try 30 vol next time so I dont have to let it process for so long but we'll see. Great product though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product I use this once per month and the creme bleach with oil is best for the hair in my opinion for taking out all color. For darker hair I use 30 volume peroxide and 20 volume for lighter colored roots I generally leave this on between 45 min to an hour wash out then add whatever color you prefer. This works great!! I've used for years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did nothing I have dark red hair and wanted to dye my hair blue so I bought this to bleach it first at home. I opened the box and all that was in there was the bottle and 4 activators but the directions said to mix 3 different things together. I mixed what I had and the consistency was watery and chunky and when I washed it out after 40 minutes my hair was the exact same colour as before. I'm not sure if something was missing from the box or if I was supposed to buy and additional product but I even had a sales person help me pick out the bleach and she said nothing about needing anything else. I was disappointed and amazed that it literally did nothing to my hair but make it smell.

Can I use this to turn black hair to light brown? I don't want blonde hair.

Asked by: Rosalina
I would do 2 different strand tests using different strengths of developers, i.e: try using a 5 volume, 10 volume or even a 15 volume. I wouldn't use 20 volume or above unless you want to achieve blond hair.(BTW Blond Brilliance makes these different volume strengths) This way you can pick the lowest volume of developer to achieve the desirable result with the least amount of damage. This product does lighten hair quickly so be sure to check the test strands every 5 minutes.

What happens if I don't have lightner oil?

Asked by: La Boricua
It's like a collection hair product item to achieve the results anticipated it requires both from product line, but mixing product is anything new. Using mixed products can cause loss of hair and damage but there or other Oil lighter Collection products but best to use as instructed....

How much of what do u mix 1 oil and 4 packets do u use all packets and all the oil

Asked by: Chrisgold
on the back directions it calls for 4 fl oz of crème developer 20 volume (sold separately) 2 activators and 2 fl oz of lightener oil. I only use 2 fl oz of crème developer and 1 activator and 1 fl oz of lightener oil. Depending on volume of your hair, I only use half of everything to touch up the roots.

Im in the #6 range of redi want to go drown can i just ise Brown

Asked by: taminomorered65
Not sure if you want to go from red to brown hair or brown to red hair how you question is typed is how I am interpreting. The creme oil lighting by ION is a good product it works depending upon the time desired for lightness but it good to have a conditioner ()after the process it sometimes can dry your hair out depending on texture of hair. I had a young lady that played sports and the season was about to start , an hair drenched with color red an some yellow hair. Used the lighter in before coming and said it didn't work correctly it worked but did not have enough product to process correctly felt as if one packet will work for color desired for length of hair. It was intense repair need after viewing her head of hair... not available

I dye my hair with permanent at home dye about once a month. It's naturally brown and currently reddish brown. Do i need to do a color remover before using this product?

Asked by: Lisa NUN
It depends on what you want. If you want blonde highlights I would say no but you may have to use heat. If you are trying to go all over blonde it would depend on what shade. If you don't want any red in it at all it will probably take more than one application. This particular lightener is gentle but you might want to consider something stronger. Hair color remover will remove the color molecules but it won't take you back to your natural shade and more than likely you will still be left with a lot of red. The problem with hair color remover is that it greatly increases porosity which in turn will make your hair over absorb any dye you may use to tone it. You would not want to bleach directly after - I would wait at least three days. If you tone it I would use the lightest possible beige/natural shade and go with an actual 'toner' (Clairol makes one). If you go any darker you will end up with brown hair because of porosity. So you have a couple of choices - bleach more than once or use hair color remover and bleach. I would rest your hair between applications and use a good conditioner.

Will this damage my hair? Can I color my hair right after I lighten it?

Asked by: Jayninne
It can damage your hair especially if you use a high volume developer. However, i find it works best to color my hair after because the hair is very accepting at that point.

So I put the first application in 45 mins and did not get to the desired level. How long should I wait to apply the second application? Thanks in advance

Asked by: SammiVal
That depends on the condition of your hair. If you had existing damage before you used the first treatment I would not try again for several days, longer if it's very damaged. Use a deep conditioner and leave it on your hair overnight if you can. If you already notice breakage or your hair feels mushy I would quit while you're ahead and use a toner on your current results. You may want to try a bleach bath if you don't have far to go. Google bleach bath to get more info on how. Sounds like you are trying to remove old color. Not sure how many levels you are trying to lighten but if 45 minutes didn't do the trick you may want to re-consider your lightening goals.

Can you use this on dark black hair and what color will it turn out as?

Asked by: Taetae34
You would REALLY need to do a strand test since different hair lifts at different rates.  An African American black hair responds very differently than an American Indian black hair versus Italian black hair.
