My hair is thick and frizzy but long. I'm scared that it might turn it toward a red tint, will it?

Asked by: JudithFa
Do you color your hair now? If so, you will know already if it “pulls red.” Mine does. Only thing about reds is they fade. Look at the base color...avoid red, orange, etc. If in doubt, go a shade lighter (cause going darker is easier), and cut it with 1/2 same color in ASH. That should take out the red. In case of disaster, immediately wash 2-3x and deep condition and leave it in for an hour in an old towel. That will wash at least 1/2 shade of color out. Best conditioner...Aussie 3 minute miracle, mayonnaise, cholesterol and clear cellophanes. Enough of each to saturate. If you are new to color, I would go to a top-notch pro the first time, and ask them for the colors used and in what proportion. Bring photos of the color you want! Good luck.

I have roots that are ash brown with lots of gray and then light golden mahagony blonde on rest of hair. Since I want to go darker and not be black haired can I use a 30 with this color and achieve a slightly lightly result than what is shown?

Asked by: BabsNOk65
yes, 30 will keep you going so dark

Most of my grey is on top and looking for something to cover it good my hair is probably med brown I usually use Loreal light brown what do you suggest

Asked by: Mermaid66
I really love the Ion Mochas line. The colors are really warm an cover my grey well. I'm about 1/3-1/2 grey. I use a level 20 developer and leave it on for an hour, not just 20 minutes. Once done my greys are completely covered and I never have an issue with fading (granted I use a sulfate-free shampoo). I highly recommend this color line. If you're looking for a medium level color, I would suggest the 4wr. I should be a lighter medium brown.

My hairdresser said she used mocha to color my hair but it is more red than these colors why

Asked by: Keyname1
It all depends on what the colour of the hair is before you use the dye. The level of developer can also affect how a colour may settle in

I am 80% grey and curr. have my hair done @ salon. It is a golden blonde, but I really want to go back to my natural brown color. Will 4WR with Vol. 20 developer work. How long should I leave it on? How dark is 4wr, I do not want an ashy color.

Asked by: TAOBrown
Yes, but it depends on the quality of your hair (thick, thin) and also how damaged it is from previous color. 20 developer is what you want to use. 1 oz color 1 oz developer. I usually mix 2 tones, to bring it an undertone shine. I personally leave my color anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour.

My hair is bleached blonde I want to add some brown back into it. I know I need a filler. will this come out brown and what color filler would I add the brown or red? I am picking this one by reviews. the color I am looking at is the 5wr light golden maho

Asked by: Jacqui63
I would use a Demi permanent color, you will get a more even color from root to ends. Demi does better with hair that's different porosity. I imagine if your bleached blond yours ends are such more porous.

Have been using 4NN which covered my gray but more black than brown. Looking for more highlights. I did my roots on Saturday and used 4WR med golden mahogany brown. My roots look red/copper . Obviously didn’t cover gray.

Asked by: Noel Mari
To cover gray hair at the roots,  you will always need to use some 5NN which is a neutral brown (the 4NN is possibly too dark as you mentioned it looked almost black - I made this mistake once too!) mixed in with the 4WR med golden mahogany. I use 1 part 5NN with three parts 4WR. For example, if you have short to medium length hair, use 1/4 oz 5NN and 3/4 oz 4WR and 1 oz developer. If you have longer hair, double these amounts. Be sure to use 20 Volume developer especially on the roots. If the ends are already coloured, save some of the colour in your dish and add a bit of water to bring it down to a 10 volume level for the ends. Leave the colour on the roots for 30 minutes, then add your water to the leftover colour in the bowl and add this to your ends just to tone them for the remaining ten minutes for a total of forty minutes.  This is the method I have been using on my hair for years as explained to me by a colourist and it has been working beautifully and I find it gives me very gorgeous, natural looking highlights. The highlights appear more and more after a few days/weeks.

I am about .....40% gray. Which developer is best to cover grays, 10 or 20? I don't want to lift; just deposit color. My base color is naturally a dark brown.

Asked by: MelissaD
20vol is needed to open the hair shaft of greys and deposit color. 10vol will only deposit the color, and it will wash off your greys right away.
