Rated 5 out of 5 by from The extra effort is worth the trouble. It’s not a permanent dye. It requires frequent redo. The payoff is it’s very gentle on your hair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 14 K gold is a godsend for bleached hair My tale is confusing, but probably not unique - so I'll try to keep to stick to the essentials to explain why this color worked so well for me. My natural hair color had been a medium brown, but now has a lot of patchy gray, therefore I use a permanent medium brown on the gray regrowth every month. I started getting gray at 27, so I've been coloring for a while now. I began foil weaving my hair about 12 years ago because the dark color was starting to look too harsh for my age and light skin tone. Initially this worked out really well, but over time my stylist started getting really heavy handed with the foils until I ended up with a nearly uniform all blonde color without many low lights left. I also hadn't realized that after a while my stylist wasn't just restricting the bleach to new growth only any more until it started to feel really dry, eventually resembling clear white straw. When I finally started to question her about it I learned that she was concerned the new growth highlights wouldn't blend with the old so she had been pulling the bleach through to previously lightened areas. She's a bit of a perfectionist at heart and her intentions were good, but I had to finally forbid her from continuing to do so, citing natural highlights were never uniform and I'd rather have it not perfect to close scrutiny than burned or broken off my head. This eventually left my hair dull, lifeless and dry - and more resembling the fur you would see on an unwashed donkey than human hair. The highlights had become more of a beige color instead of blonde, mixed with large areas of clear-white (please give me that color, said no woman - ever). I had used the 14 K gold semi permanent color in the past to try to refresh the bleached blonde color, but because my hair is so porous and over processed I was afraid to leave it in for the full recommended 25 minutes so the color results always turned out suboptimal. Several days ago I decided to just process the full 25 minutes - initially it was a bright red-gold, but because it is semi permanent color I wasn't that concerned as I had a professional color correction in a salon with a gold filler years ago which initially turned out the same way until it faded to a nice gold color. After 2 shampoos it has faded to a beautiful, natural 14 K spun gold color, and I couldn't be more happy with the results. I don't get the impression that the final color will fade out any time soon either. It did a decent job on blending my virgin gray, my hair now feels much softer and behaves more like less processed hair, and it doesn't look like straw any more. For $9.00 you just can't go wrong if your hair concerns fall into the same category.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Natural Looking I really like this color. It's very subtle and covers gray/white hair without orange tones like the 14kt Gold.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total waste of money! Store clerk suggested this even after I stressed several times that it would be coloring gray. Small patch of hair up front that I had used an Overtone that was too light on. Have tried the darkest brown 3 times in 4 days. The only thing colored was my scalp. Will not buy again. Super disappointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Could be better I have a salon balayage that really grew out. I didnt want to bleach my hair anymore or put too much harmful chemicals in my hair to get back to my natural color (dark brown) so i choose this brand in B15W (dark warm brown) although it matches my natural hair pretty well, i did 2 separate applications, and the balayage is still peeking through! Im disappointed causr like the color and how non-damaging it is, but doesnt cover very well at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The perfect ash brown! I just got the light ash brown color to do a shadow root on my very over-processed bleach blonde hair in order to transition back to my natural color. I didn't want to use anything that had ammonia or required developer to try and prevent more damage. After painting this on my hair I was a bit skeptical; it looked ~way~ more red than I was expecting. After following the directions to a tee, I rinsed out under cool water; I finally have the shadow root I've been wanting! I can tell I'll definitely need to reapply in a few weeks, but there's enough in the bottle to do my roots at least 3 times. Very impressed!

I just want to temporarily dye my natural color a deep cool brown. Is this a good option? Would it return to my natural color over a few washes?

Asked by: Vintagedollxo
Yes, it is a good option. The temporary color begins to fade with washing and I typically recolor about every 3 weeks.

how long after the first time I use can I use again the color did not take well the first time

Asked by: jaee1973
Unfortunately, you probably have non-porus color-resistant hair like me if the color did not take well the first time. You could use this hair color every day if you wanted to as long as you add a packet of sweet & low sugar substitute--this neutralizes the irritating effects of the product for people who are sensitive. I use the product every 7-10 days, but could use it more often if I wanted. I have medium brown hair and I don't want it to look red in the sun, so I mix medium ash brown with light ash brown. The longer you leave it on, the more intense the color will be. Sometimes I get busy and leave it on an hour before washing it out. I have used this product a long time and it does take a few applications to achieve the color you want. This is not a product for someone who washes their hair every day. I wash mine twice a week and it fades significantly with each washing. One of the good things about having to use this product so often is that you never have roots!! I do wish they would make the product a little thicker. It is very thin and messy. Unfortunately, I am so chemically sensitive, this is the only hair color I have found that I can tolerate--otherwise I would look for something a little more permanent.

Can I add gray drops to this for better coverage on 95% gray hair?

Asked by: Aprilg123
Gray drops help the color hold to the gray hair....it doesnt add gray color.

Can I use this on 95% grey?Want to use champagne on my roots.I have highlighted light golden brown hair. I have tried all "demi" products with absolutely no coverage! The advanced grey solutions worked great but theres not enuff color choices.

Asked by: Aprilg123
Not sure about the lighter shades. The medium dark browns work to cover grays but will wash out.

Is this safe to use if you are sllergic to hair dye?

Asked by: CaboverdeD
Probably, but each person is different. I went to this after suffering severe allergic reactions using permanent and/or demi-permanent hair dyes. I had been using the more permanent hair dyes for years, but one day I became allergic to them and have never been able to use them again. I have had zero issues using this product. But, unfortunately it is not "true to color" and does not last a long time.

What is the difference in color between Dark Warm Brown and Medium Ash Brown? I have been using Darkest Brown but it is too dark - want to mix with a lighter shade of brown, but don't know which would be better.

Asked by: AnnBetty
I mix the Medium Ash Brown and Light Ash Brown together and it is not dark. A very nice shade of brown.

Is this ppd free?

There is NO PPD or toulene in this product or hydrogen peroxide or ammonia. Do not use the gray formula of this product because it had PPD in it.

Is this a kit that has what I need to color my hair or do I need to buy an activator, gloves, etc?

Asked by: Miss Dee60
Not a kit. But DO use gloves. I use latex, they are better fitting. I shampoo first to get all products out, i.e. gel, spray, etc. I'm not good at separating/parting so onto towel dried hair, I just drag the bottle through my scalp, moving around to get as much root coverage as possible, use whole bottle as my hair is thick. Cover with cap. I only leave on 8 minutes but it covers gray completely. After rinsing, I shampoo really well (with a color protector shampoo) as this stuff really sticks to your scalp and I don't think that's healthy. You will be amazed how much color keeps coming out in the suds. The rinsing alone doesn't remove it.
