Tips and Tricks

Crème hair color is best mixed in a tint bowl and applied with an a tint brush. A root to tip color application is not recommended. Always test strand first to ensure desired results!

For superior gray coverage a 20 volume developer is recommended.

If you touch up your roots every 4-6 weeks and would like to change colors you would still only retouch the roots and refresh the ends later in the processing time.

Remember, tint does not lift tint! When wanting to go lighter in shade selection you must remove the previous color first in order to go lighter! If wanting to stay the same shade level or going darker, color removal is not necessary in most scenarios.

1:1 mixing ratio. Two ounces of color to two ounces of 10, 20, 30 or 40 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer. High Lift Blonde series is mixed 1:2 ratio: Two ounces of color to 4 ounces of 30 or 40 Volume Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer. Bowl and brush application is recommended. Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

If have never colored your hair and you want to change your current hair color or you have not colored in 3 months or longer follow these steps:

Apply hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair

• Work gently through hair as you would a shampoo. Loosely pile hair on top of head

• Process according to manufacturer’s directions. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather

• Rinse until the water runs clear.

If you color your hair every 4-6 weeks with a shade of similar tone and level follow these steps:

Make 1/4” partings throughout dry, unwashed hair

• Apply mixture onto new growth area only, working from the front to the back of your head. Leave color on new growth area for 25 minutes. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather

• Rinse until the water runs clear.

Other tips: Always perform a strand and patch test

• It is often not necessary to refresh the ends of the hair on every permanent hair color touch-up application

• For resistant gray, use 20 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp® Creme Developer and apply to gray area first

• Apply a stain barrier cream around the hairline prior to application when using dark shades

• Choose a lighter shade than desired if you are unsure of which shade to use or if you have very few gray hairs

• Use an old towel to protect your clothing

I have gray hair natural and dyed, I'm wanting an ice blonde look. How can I achieve this?

Asked by: Linda1953
No! Use a kit for stripping off the old color... they are sold on here. Then bleach (I like the lightening bleach) and then wait a few days and put Ion lightest blonde (platinum lace in Wella) and if it’s got any orange undertones just wash it in baking soda and it should be fine. I really DO recommend ION -

My hair is at a level 10 ~ 11 and I want to lighten it even further. Which color should I use? Also if I want to get a level 6~8 cool ash brown, which one should I use?

Asked by: Ash greyy
If it’s at a 10-11 it’s already as light as it can go and you should tone it instead of lifting it. Depending on the color you’d use a violet or green based toner. As far as a 6-8 cool ash brown, that’s a pretty big spectrum. Look at color tango and mixing 2 colors to get the tone u want. If u lighten it again you’ll prolly fry it off.

I need to lift regrowth of darker blond. This is all I ever do, but Salon has jumped from $70 to $150. I have medical issues, on fixed income. It's becoming increasingly difficult to maintain (and travel)

The hi lift dyes work amazing on my regrowth and I am quite dark, probably a level 6. Save your cash! My personal fave is the Loreal hi color hi lift in Vanilla Champagne. The others in the line are a little too dark for me, except the hi lift highlights in ash blonde, but that shade is VERY ash. So, mix and match perhaps w/ these to colors, or the ion high lifts are really good as well. They have all four bases: gold, natural, cool and ash.

What is the base color tone?

Asked by: AmberPie1
This one is HLV, where the V stands for violet, used to cancel yellow and warmth. They also have a natural (N) a gold (G) and an ash (A).

Do I need anything else with this to dye my hair?

Asked by: Brittv33
High lift color needs 30 or 40 developer. And it will only work on virgin hair.

Can High Lift be mixed with cool blonde 8?

Asked by: Moosmom928
Yes but high lift has lightener in it so if you mix it with 8 color you will be dilluting the purpose of the lift. You are better off lightening your hair to the desired shade and then using a toner to get the hue you want.
