  • What is it?

ion Color Brilliance Intensive Shine Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color is a state-of-the-art European Ionic Formula that is a luxurious, long-lasting, deposit-only hair color without ammonia. This hair color covers and blends gray hair up to 100% without lifting the hair's natural pigment. The formula will allow same-day color with chemical relaxers and permanent waves.

ion Hair Color’s superior quality, proprietary blends are formulated in Italy by our expert team of chemists to deliver unparalleled results. Our unique system combines the finest quality natural and exotic ingredients with powerful high-tech compounds to achieve exquisite, brilliant color with superior gray coverage. ion Hair Color science relies on the power of micro-pigmentation—our microscopic pigment molecules oxidize slower, allowing them to penetrate deep into the cortex of each hair strand for long-lasting, fade-resistant color.

ion's formulas are PPD-free and enriched with Hyaluronic Acid, Argan Oil, Pequi Oil, and botanicals to nourish and strengthen hair from within. Not to mention, ion Hair Color is gentle on hair, containing up to 38% less ammonia than the leading professional brands on the market. Unlock your hair’s true potential with Ion’s cutting-edge, salon-quality color science and bring home vibrancy like never before.

The Ionic formula provides protection for stronger hair structure. ion Color Brilliance Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color contains botanically derived nourishing ingredients with a refreshing fragrance.

    What makes it special?
    • Enhance, change or increase the color intensity
    • Fade resistant and intense conditioning
    • Maximum light reflection and shine
    • PPD-free
  • Select desired shade. Mix 2 oz. of ion Intensive Shine Demi Hair Color with 4 oz. ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer 10 Volume in a non-metallic bowl. Mixing ratio is 1:2 unless otherwise noted. All instructions are based on average texture, normal porosity; Fine hair is much more receptive to hair coloring where coarse hair is not.

Use ion Color Brilliance Pre-Color Treatment to help ensure even color results from scalp to ends. A five-minute cool down is recommended if heat is used prior to rinsing. Standard processing time is 10-40 minutes at room temperature and 10-15 minutes with heat. After processing, rinse hair thoroughly until the water runs clear. Shampoo and style as desired.
  • Demi-permanent hair color is the most versatile kind of haircolor, because it lasts much longer than semi-permanent color (up to six weeks). It is sometimes referred to as deposit-only hair color or non-lift deposit-only color, because it’s formulated to deposit (add), but not to lift (lighten) color. Demi-permanent color is ideal for blending or covering gray (up to 100 percent!) and enhancing, deepening, or changing the tone of your natural color. It also adds intense shine.

Always wear gloves. Using a non-metallic bowl or tint bottle, mix 2 oz. of ion Color Brilliance Intensive Shine Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color with either 2 oz. or 4 oz. ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer 10 volume. Apply mixture immediately after mixing to dry hair. Do not store mixture; container may burst.

For natural, non-color-treated hair (virgin application):  Apply  formula to the scalp area.  Immediately work through mid-lengths and ends.

For Retouching:  Apply formula to the scalp (new growth) area.  Process for half the recommended processing time, and then work formula through the mid-lengths and ends.  Finish processing. Because 45-50% of color loss is attributed to shampooing, it is imperative to use hair care products formulated for color-treated hair.

Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chrome hair color I got this today and thought it would be a nice & easier alternative to mixing T19 toner with 050 violet hair color to achieve a slightly less bluish but still vibrant grey color... it suggested I lighten hair before application, so although my hair was pre-lightened, I did once more before application. After 20 minutes I checked it with high hopes- rather than being more effective than my last gray coloring with even darker blonde hair to cover, the lightest parts of my hair were BARELY neutralized, even though they are bleach blonde. There was no effect on any part of my hair aside subtle toning of the tips. I left purple shimmer lights conditioner on my hair for 15 minutes to help tone down so I can at least go in public. Horribly ineffective, huge letdown, waste of money & damaged hair unnecessarily. Will have to recolor again to correct. Do not buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10NA, 9NA, and 7NA = THE Best to Ash Tone Blondes! I LUVVVVVV the ION Demi line! It blows Wella Color Charm DEMI out of the water when it comes to their "ash blonde" demi to tone bleached blonde hair (Wella is not ashy enough, and they wash out too quickly). These ION Demi colors are the best I have ever used to tone my bleached blonde hair, aside from the Redken Shades EQ glosses "shade-wise", as EQ has so many more to choose from. However, the ION Demi line of ash blonde shades lasts MUCH longer than the Shades EQ. I go about 6-8 weeks before really needing a re-fresh. If I do a lot of hot oil treatments, I may need a refresh a bit sooner. My hair always looks so shiny and it feels so soft and silky after using the ION demi colors. I always use the ION bonding additive to both my bleach and to my Demi color. I use step 1 in the bleach and in the Demi colors. I then use the step 2 color sealer AFTER I rinse out my Demi color. I LUVVVVV that ION bonder so much more than Olaplex! TIPS: *I have been coloring/bleaching my hair for over 30 yrs, but I am not licensed. What I DO have is a ton of hard-earned experience, lol* I would caution people to make sure they condition/even out porosity in their hair very well AFTER bleaching, and BEFORE they apply a toner or Demi color over bleached hair, or you will end up with a very muddy result from color "grab" by the toner. OR, your hair will go VERY dark, very quickly. This is due to porosity, and NOT the fault of the Demi color. Use Roux Porosity Control after you bleach. Rinse out. Then, apply your toner/or Demi color. Strand test should always be done before applying toner to your entire hair. And if you have highlights or want a "shadow root", you need to apply the toner/demi color to the areas you want the ashiest/darkest, first. The areas you want lighter, or less ashy, or the areas that are the palest on your head --- you should apply the toner to those areas at the very end, so that they do not over process. Ditto if you have very bleached out ends. You may only need the toner on that area for a minute or two, whereas your roots may need a full 20-30 min. Strand test. I like a shadow root, and I have low lights as well as highlights. My total processing time is about 25-30 min, depending on how much brass I am dealing with (brass meaning a warm gold or yellow, not orange! Ash blonde shades cannot make orange hair, blonde. They can only dull the orange to a murky orange or to maybe a dull muddy brown. If you want blonde hair, you have to bleach at least to gold for a dark blonde/light brown, or to a lemon yellow or lighter for a true blonde). I use 2 shades (7NA for my roots and my lowlights, and I use 9NA for my highlights). I begin on my roots, wait 10 min. Then, I apply the same 7NA to my darker lowlight strands, and wait 10 min. Then, I apply 9NA all over -- it will tone the highlights and barely affect the other areas with the darker color on them). I leave the 9NA on for only 5 min or less. I usually leave the face framing strands w/o any demi color until the very last ONE MINUTE. This is because I want those strands to be the brightest, lightest. Please do not slap demi color onto bleached hair without having strand tested, conditioned your hair, and without having a plan laid out as to how and where you will apply the color and for how long on each area. Porous hair can go from lemon yellow to slate gray in a matter of seconds, in any line of demi color! So, neutralize that porosity after bleaching, and before toning. If you are still worried about color grab, even after evening porosity and doing your strand test, you can always dilute your demi color by adding in CLEAR to your mix. Make sure to add in the right amount of developer (10 vol), and include the amount of CLEAR in your calculation. For TONING bleached hair, you need to use a 2:1 ratio of developer to demi color (ie, 4 oz developer to 2 oz of demi color; or 2 oz developer to 1 oz of demi color). ***If you are deepening your color or coloring gray hair, then the ratio is the standard 1:1 of each***. Good luck to everyone who had unfavorable results the first time around -- I hope you re try the ION Demi colors. Each demi brand is different in terms of how their shade results are and how long they take to process, etc, but imho the ION Demi line is AMAZING. I wish they had not discontinued their gold and copper shades, as I have a few girlfriends who relied on those! They also got incredibly beautiful results. The key is strand testing and timing! I hope this info helps someone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Deposits significantly darker I’ve tried this color a number of times with different clients and it always deposits much much darker than expected. I was recommended this color as a replacement or a substitute for shades EQ and it is definitely not.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the color Beautiful color! Need to mix with activator. The instructions are so small on the box and pamphlet I had to look it up online. First time diy. Color freaked me out at first! It covered all my greys!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Hair Color. Great Money Saver! Great hair color. So much less damaging than regular store brands. It is darker in color, than you may be used to be buying at the grocery or drug store. With those products I used medium brown. With this I use light brown. Also, my hair is long. I have to do my roots every 4-5 weeks, but the rest is of my hair has great color for 2-3 months. I usually get 2 color treatments with one tube. I keep what I don’t use in the refrigerator till the next month.

Do you need developer for this one or just apply by itself?

Asked by: Kailanilatina
You need developer.  I use the one for Sensitive Hair.  There are also kits that are on sale right now that include everything you need.

What happened to the rest of the demi permanent colors. I was buying the 6RV and the 6RC for years and since the pandemic I have not seen either color. Will they be back or have they been permanently discontinued? I was told to try wella but I hate it.

What is “demi” permanent color?

Asked by: Anonymous
Demi permanent color is a deposit only color, it does not have the ability to lift to make your natural/ base color lighter. Demi permanent colour is perfect for toning lightener hair or to go darker and not cause any extra damage to the hair

My Natural hair is brown, I went completely blonde (professionally) months back. About a month ago I boxed dyed it red because I couldn’t keep up with my roots. Well it’s now turning pink. Do I need to get level 10 volume to mix with this product?

Asked by: Lexi flowers
I only use 10 volume with this product because I want to deposit color only, not lift. Unfortunately, bleached hair fades quickly because the cuticle is so damaged. The color practically falls out during shampoos!

So I used the 7na Demi a few months ago and it’s time to cover some greys and freshen color. It’s finally the color I want as it was too dark at first.  Do I have to use on complete hair again or just roots?

Asked by: Shaz12345
A retouch only would be recommended to keep the previously processed hair right were you prefer it.
