Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware-Not what was expected This is not an additive it is green hair dye. If you follow the directions you will be a smurf. No where in the description was this evident. I had to google it to find out that it was actual emerald green hair color.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not really a blue? The blue was not blue. From what happened when I done the hair is that it turned more Dark purple than blue. Not sure what I done wrong or if that is just the actual color.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea... needs improvement on color validity Love the idea of how this color system works, one bottle 4 different types if processing is awesome. However when it comes to color I found it to be lacking pigment compared to other brands. Also the color was very different from the swatch - pretty but no matching. I bleached my hair to a level 10, applied level 7,9, and 11 iridescent blonde to varying sections using a demi permanent color formula. Iridescent has blue and purple undertones on the swatch, but my hair was evenly colored in a peachy blonde color as a result.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just an experiment... I'm not sure if it changed the color or not, granted I only used about a third of the bottle. Also, the liquid was yellow, not purple which confused me so I guess I'm not surprised that it didn't work. But, I still like the color that I mixed it with which is the Loreal HiColor HiLights in Magenta. Next time, I plan to try using the rest of the bottle and see if that does anything.

which additive can help get red out? I have color 50-4n I'm trying to cover some gray and this color comes out reddish.  want brown without red undertones... which additive can I add?

Asked by: GABRIELLE8
Double Ash worked well for me at toning red. It's a teal color dye so it allowed some golden hues to show, which I like, because it looks more natural. I didn't try the plain Blue Additive but I assume it would get rid of red as well but probably eliminate golden yellow colors too.  Use 1 capful of liquid additive per ounce of color or 1 inch of cream additive per ounce of color.

so I'm going to bleaching my black hair and putting the orange color on it but I'm not very familiar with additives. if I put the orange on it will it act as a dye? is it a dye? Ill be mixing it with a bit of brown to tone down the orange.

Asked by: jocelyn05
This product is a dye. Blue shades will neutralize orange and make your hair look brown.  Use 1 capful of additive for each ounce of color you use. If you have the cream additive, use 1 inch of cream per ounce of color.

I love Ion semi permanent blood orange color but it doesn't last - will the orange additive mixed with 9NN give me the same color I am looking for?

Asked by: Rosanb52
Unfortunately it will not, it may pale in color or change slightly to a more brown color since NN is to neutralize reds and golds maybe try a 9RN instead it might give you a richer darker bright color but will eventually fade into a more blood orange color you want

Can I mix these with permanent hair dye?

Asked by: Bb189000
Yes. It mixes with Chi Ionic Shine Shade. Using color theory, it is used to counteract shades that are in the hair. If your hair has a lot of orange in it from highlighting, you could add blue to neutralize the orange.

To achieve the color of double ash what would I need to do? I see I would want to use 20v developer because I want permanent. I have dark reddish brown hair now with grays framing my face.

Asked by: MommaMalz14
You would buy an ash hair color and then use the green or blue additive with it to make a double ash. If your hair is more on the orangey-brown, use blue. If it’s more red-brown, use green.

Exactly what is an additive. Do I have to purchase anything to mix this with.

Asked by: debbyp58
You add a small amount to a bottle of hair dye to shift the tone of it. For example, you can add green  to your normal color to neutralize unwanted red tones.
