  • Leaves hair beautifully conditioned and ready for recoloring Does not restore hair to natural color, it removes the tint Removes color build-up and muddy-looking tints
L'Oreal Effasol Color Remover removes the tint; revealing the underlying lightened base. Permanent hair color first lightens, then deposits color.

Effasol Color Remover removes the color deposit, but leaves the hair in its lightened state as the natural color is no longer in the hair. Does not resotre hair to its natural color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY I purchased this from my local store to remove black hair dye from my hair trying to save money from going to a salon as money was tight. After putting this on my hair it turned parts of my hair red, parts yellow, and parts orange. It was an absolute mess and no color would fix it. I am going to the salon today for a color correction and pray they will be able to do something, but word of warning to others DO NOT BUY THIS. This should not be on the shelf for the public to purchase. It has destroyed my hair. I know I was the one who did it to myself, but if the ladies at the store did not push me to buy such a product explaining it wouldn't bleach my hair and would just take out the color I would have never purchased it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stripped my Demi permanent red! I had a nasty red Demi color in my locs from a bad dye job. I let the color fade for about a month and a half and picked it up this product from my local beauty supply. It took 5 packs. I mixed half developer and half water because I didn’t want to cause too much damage to my locs as I will be bleaching my roots and coloring tomorrow. It took about 20 minutes to deposit and 20 minutes to process. I am very pleased. Most of my hair is stripped of the color. Knowing that red is a hard color to strip, I did not expect these results. My ends didn’t strip as well as my roots but being that I have locs I expected that. I didn’t have much damage after the process. My ends felt a little brittle but I put a protein treatment in overnight and everything is back to normal. Please note this product is meant to strip color from your hair and not turn it back to your original hair color. I only did the process once and I had a good amount of light pink left but I’m okay with that since I’m dying it tomorrow. I wish this product was value friendly. It took about $50 to purchase enough to cover my entire head. But I would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great color remover Worked great! Had blue remaining in my hair and it pulled it right out

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works amazing It worked to take out most of the blue and green (i used AF Poseidon and Phantom Green). I used a 30v developer and mixed in some water to dilute the developer down. waited about 10 minutes and it pulled most of the color out, leaving some minty color areas. My hair was a bit dry. For people with sensitive smell, it has a very strong chemical smell, so i recommend being in a well vented area. I tried two of the 'home remedies'to get the color out before this product. The vitamin C method didnt work at all, while the baking soda method worked just a tiny bit but it dried my hair out so much i had to get some parts chopped off (i feel like it dried out my hair much more than the loreal effasol remover)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable and Easy I have used this product for years and would recommend it to almost anyone. I use a conditioner after recoloring and my hair is almost back to normal within a couple of weeks. Don’t use on extremely damaged hair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job for the most part I purchased this product looking to remove all the different brown and red color that I dyed my hair. It worked it did leave a little red but that's fine. My hair was dry after shampooing. I followed up with an aphogee treatment. And used a light brown cellphane (not pictured) Satisfied with my results

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty awesome I’ve used this a few times and it has always worked the best to take color out and so I can move to another color. It does leave my hair dry but it’s usually fixed after a deep conditioning mask. To the comments who have said it makes their hair yellow, it says on the packaging it won’t return your hair to its normal color. It’s only a step before changing your hair color.

I dyed my hair using loreal hicolors in magenta and im am changing my hair to more of a pinker shade (less red) and i was wondering if this would good enough to get my hair down to a good blond ish color just to change my hair color to a manic panic pink

Asked by: LizMhair12
NO! you will only get to a light yellow stage which is too much yellow for the pink color. this will take you so far and then you will need to change to bleach. please find the best protein treatment you can and use it between every step. you need this to keep hair on your head. also do not do this alone and make sure your hair is strong enough to handle what you are attempting. Too much yellow will make you coral in color with the pink. If it were me, I would find a great colorist...! This idea is not for the novice.

Hello, I have a question: my hair is a dark red tone with that being said, should I use this product with water or a developer?

Asked by: Jessica VQ
Effasol removes dye,or tint from your hair, if your hair is natural color then you would use bleach. If your hair is dark tint and you want to go lighter then yes I would use 20 volume h2o2 with effasol,  put it on the hair shaft first

No don’t use anything other then the 20vol or the water it says to use!! It works great with the 20 if you have dark color needed to get out. Make sure to cover it with a bag or something to help it work it’s best!!! I am a hairstylist!!

The Package cautions Do Not Use Over Semi-Permanent Haircolor-hair breakage may result. Can Effasol be used to remove Redken Shades EQ (Demi-Permanent) haircolor safely? Hair has gotten darker over time due to depositing with no lightening effects?

Asked by: Angele BW
Hi Angele BW: I used Shades for years and years and I too noticed that my hair was getting darker and darker. I used Effasol to remove Shades (not sure if Shades is a demi-gloss or semi-gloss) and my hair turned orange (brassy) and yellow in streaks. I used Effasol a second time a day later and I still had streaks of orange and yellow, although lighter. I decided to try it one more time. My hair is pretty strong, although I've had accidents in the past which resulted in cutting my hair. This last time it was white as snow, with a little orange and yellow, but my hair felt super duper dry. I made the mistake of purchasing Elvive shampoo and conditioner (by L'Oreal) and it RUINED my hair. My hair was all the way down to my booty cheeks when I started the color removing process. For some unknown reason my hair does NOT RESPOND TO PROTEIN OR HOT OIL TREATMENTS AND ELVIVE TURNED MY HAIR INTO STRAW AND IT BROKE ONE SIDE OF MY HAIR UP TO MY JAWLINE, APPROXIMATELY 1/3 OF MY HAIR! My hair was dry, but not broken until I purchased the OTC "7 SIGNS OF DAMAGE" THAT THIS SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER SUPPOSEDLY IS TO HELP. It did the opposite and when I returned the set to the store, the manager said I needed to keep using it for it to work?!!!! BALD IS THE GOAL? So, I was able to lighten my hair with the Effasol, but KNOW WHAT YOUR HAIR RESPONDS TO AND WHAT IT DOESN'T FOR AFTER CARE. I attempted to get highlights with 20 volume bleach (in a salon) two years prior to using Effasol and MY HAIR BROKE OFF because of the repeated use of Shades, plus the stylist was so sure my hair could take three days of highlighting which was incorrect. I chock it up to too much deposit of color with no lifting. I've gone to permanent color now (lift and deposit) and decided against the deposit only colors. Shades is wonderful as a toner (used on pre lightened hair) or blending colors for a gentle wash out, but repeated use can cause problems with removing if deciding to change colors. I'd say be careful with Effasol and only use it once if you aren't going super light because depending how much color deposit you have with Shades, you could be in the same predicament as me. I have a few inches of super short hair on one side of my head, but no one seems to notice. They didn't even notice when I cut all of my hair off to attempt to SORT OF even out the broken chunks of hair. It was down to my booty cheeks and now it's up to my shoulders with 1/3 of hair three inches shorter than the rest of it on the left side, the side I sleep on plus, I have shorter pieces all around the back of my head on one side also from sleeping on it one day after using Elvive shampoo and conditioner. I COULD NOT GET A COMB THROUGH MY HAIR. THERE WAS NO MOISTURE OR SLIP IN MY HAIR POST USING THE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER AND THE PRODUCT DID IRREPARABLE DAMAGE MY HAIR. I should have stuck to Joico intense conditioner and shampoo. That works GREAT with my hair. The intense conditioner is like vaseline. Leave it in your hair for 5 minutes or longer and your hair will be super happy. Joico shampoo for damaged hair is wonderful as well. Good luck to you on this Shades color removing journey.

You need to be a licensed cosmetologist. You need to show your cosmetology license, and your ID. If you are a cosmetology student you might be able to buy this as well.
