  • Mix Ratio: 1 part haircolor, 2 parts developer. Lighter than natural shade, first time application: Develop for 15 minutes, check, then process up to an additional 15 minutes or until color is even. Darker than natural shade, first time application: Develop for 30 minutes, check, then process up to an additional 15 minutes if additional coverage is needed.

Tips for achieving optimum coverage on gray hair:

    1. Select a shade level 8 or darker for best coverage; Lighter shades will create a translucent effect.

    2. Shades from Natural or Gold Family will produce a more natural result with optimum coverage.

    3. Mix with 20 Volume Well Color Charm Developer

    4. Apply generously starting at the area with highest percentage of gray or most resistant.

    5. Process for 30 minute, extend to 45 minutes if needed.

    6. For better coverage on hair that is more than 50% gray, use a fashion shade from the Red Family and mix with equal parts of Wella Color Charm Natural or Gold shade at the same level.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Great product, typically go with Carmel, wanted a darker look which was exactly what I got with the dark brown.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not true to shade and fades to brown fast The burgundy was dark and nice but only stayed burgundy/reddish for a couple days then faded to a solid dark brown. Its only been a couple weeks and my grey is showing so much. This was a new recommendation but did not work out like expected.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Brassy Orange results I have been coloring my light brown hair to an ash blonde for many years and was using this to touch up roots and grey patches. I was disappointed with the unattractive copper/brassy color result with no depth and I even used an ash blonde toner afterward. The only reason I give it 2 stars is because it did completely cover my greys.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Highest Cost Charged I’ve been shopping Sally’s for years, I am on file and just so disappointed I didn’t get my cosmetologist discount.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixed my brassy bleached hair I used medium smokey ash blonde to tone up my brassy bleached hair, and it worked wonders. I mixed with the 20 vol wella cream developer, let it process for ~25 minutes and I’m very happy with the results. I thought I could have to go to a salon to fix it but I’m so glad I didn’t! This was much more affordable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spicing up my hair color I love the color and how well it covers my grey hair. I’ve used Wella before and will continue to purchase it because of the color choices and how my hair Looks and feels when I use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Red hair I love this color because it’s more a natural red. It’s more like my original color not a glow in the dark color.

Colorist uses 4n 20 vol.....not sure what 20 vol means?

Asked by: SameeBee
You have to buy 20 volume developer to go along with the hair dye to mix them together. The hair dye has the ratio Instructions on the box. Just type in 20 volume developer in the search.

Bleaching my hair with lightening powder and 20 developer to bring down dark brown hair then coloring with wella color charm permanent hair color. It says to mix it with 20 developer to, is this ok since used the 20 devoloper with the lightening powder to

Asked by: Dawn2204
Before you over process your hair, please test an area. If you bleached your hair to platium, you will only need to tone with color and I would use 10 vol instead. You will need to check the process at 10 minutes and every 5 minutes following.

I colored my hair w 911/9a can I tone with 10a/1030? Wella

Asked by: Jame1124
Sorry, I am a brunette, would risk answering a blond shade. Just to share my positive experience using color charm - I color my dark natural shade, then highlight & tone, after which use red or light brown shade to have non-brassy highlights & a beautiful lift to hair.

Wella medium brown is a 4, Loreal medium brown is a 5. Are they the same? The color charts look the same, but I always thought you're supposed to go by the number?? (I've used Loreal box #5 for years, want to switch to mixing my own with Wella liquid)

Asked by: CindyinVC
Wella provides a conversation chart. Always a good idea to look at it.

What should I use with the Color Charm Permanent Liquid Hair Color to color all over and for good gray coverage will it work by itself or it needs to be mixed with something else?

Asked by: Alla Fridman
Any permanent hair color needs to be mixed with a developer in order for it to process correctly. When used with a 20 volume developer most permanent hair color will cover grey hair.

I am trying to achieve platinum blonde, I was told by the woman working in Sally’s to use the Lightest Ashe Blonde Toner. Will this really work, also how much developer should I use? It only says one part, and I’m not sure what that’s supposed to mean.

Asked by: Lisha210
The color choice is good but I would use the permanent color formula as it will last longer without fading and the mix is different as you use more peroxide ie 2 to 1.
