Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful color! Bought this color to go at the ends of red hair. To give it a red to orange ombré kind of style. I didn’t know the color was going to come out so vibrant! I absolutely love it! It stays awhile too. For the first couple washes, orange will come out of my hair. However, my hair remains vibrant! Definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Go-to! I love this dye! I have been using it for the last 6 mos to touch up my roots and it lifts them to the perfect color for my already orange hair (I use shade Copper)! Just some things I’ve learned about this dye as I have used a few shades from this line ... If you want bright hair (think fashion colors) then you need to use the hicolor highlights line. The regular hi color which has more options is definitely the more natural shades. So that is something to consider. Also, this dye is designed for virgin hair. If you have never dyed your hair before you will have ideal results or if you’re using it to touch up roots. If you have dye in your hair the results can vary. I have used the red with great luck and the copper with zero luck on dyed hair. Don’t use this to touch up your whole head. Hi lift can be just as damaging (if not more) than bleach so be cautious of repeated use. Also keep in mind when using any permanent dye over top of other permanent dye you’re not going to lift you can only deposit so if you’re going for a vibrant (& healthy!) look I suggest only using this On regrowth and a semi or demi on the rest of your hair. I have attached some photos of my hair using the hicolor highlights in copper on regrowth (about 6 - 7inches of my hair by now) and various shades of orange semi permanent dyes in lengths of my hair

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for dark hair I used this with 30 developer on my medium brown hair and it did not lighten at all, very disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save Your Money i tried this with both 30 developer and 40 developer and it didnt lighten my hair. Going back to Clairol Textures and Tones with the Bleach Booster. This is a great product and safely lightens my hair.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very misleading! "For dark hair only" is what the box states, however this did not work at all on my dark hair. Let me start by saying I've tried a lot of different red hair dyes for years when I was in my teens. I've dealt with many ups and downs with the different shades of red that are on the market. After a while I stopped dying my hair because my hair started to fall out and it became very damaged due to all the different dyes that I was trying-I'm gonna cut straight to the chase- I am absolutely and utterly livid with how my hair has turned out! I did so much research on this L'oreal HiColor it's not even a joke. I bought everything I needed, mixed the right amount of developer and dye together, left it in for the appropriate amount of time, etc, and it looks terrible! They say it's for dark hair, and that is what I have (after growing my virgin hair out again) but it turned my roots bright red and the rest of my hair - from mid-shaft to ends is burgundy! I was not expecting such a disappointing outcome. I will never purchase this product again - and no, I will not "re-dye" it to see if it'll come out right the second time, I will just simply have to buy another brand and hope for the best. L'oreal HiColor needs to state on the box that "results may vary" instead of making their product seem guaranteed to work to dark hair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BEWARE really wish this product had worked for me. after leaving it in for 30 minutes much to my horror my roots were bright fire truck red and my ends were still dark red. that being said, to achieve a very bright colour it must be done on virgin hair not previously dyed hair, wish i knew before buying this !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for 2 yrs I’m not kidding when I say I’ve had this same color for 2 years now. I just get so many compliments on it and it makes me feel good too! Last 6-8 wks before the ends start looking pinkish. Great hair color not sure how they did it

I just used this with the 20 developer. The red is not as bright as I would like it. Can I re dye it to see if it would take on more red? Would I use the same 20 developer?

Asked by: Kittyred
The higher the developer, the brighter it’ll get. But at the same time the higher the damage. I use 40 the first time and 20 or 30 for touch ups

So I kept reading these posts that the best combination is the magenta and red are those both the highlites dye mixed together?

Asked by: CrrCre77
Yes, the magenta and red are mixed together with the addition of developer. The colors mixed together make a vibrant color combination and look awesome!

So I've gotten my hair both bleached and dyed over a month ago, but it isn't as bright of a Red that I would like it to be, would using this product make it brighter?

Asked by: Jasmines1993
If your hair is already bleached and dyed, coloring it with Red will brighten it. However, to not further damage your hair, begin mixing it with 20 volume developer. If it isn't as bright as you wanted, then move up to 30 Volume next time. Be sure to condition like crazy in between but use conditioner specifically for colored hair.

Is this meant to be only for hi lights in your hair?

Asked by: Liljanaw
No it may say that in the name, but it's not just for highlighting. I've been using it on my entire head, mixing Med Intense Violet (a different brand) and Magenta and the color is vibrant and exactly what I want. It took a long time (almost a year!) to find the right combination but I finally did.

If I’ve used semi permanent dye on my hair before(a few months ago) will this product work without bleaching/colour remover? Don’t want to damage my hair badly

Asked by: Leah1745
Yes, it works with out bleaching as long as you didn't have your hair dyed black. I used 40 developer the first time and then 10 after.

I have natural strawberry blonde hair and it’s currently colored 3N.  I have hot roots (Brassy gold and orange) that are resistant to color, no matter what I do to tone them or process them.  Is it possible to use this?  I don’t want to bleach.

Asked by: MsFrustrated
Yes, it may not lift to the color it shows due to being colored 3N prior, but it will lift a lot! I used it on a client with dark brown hair and she went to an arielle from little mermaid red! It was really pretty and nice to only do one process. I used a 40 developer. Always do a test stand first!

My hair is half blonde half hot red and I have magenta dye but I want it more red than purple what to do

Asked by: Serenity1213
Have you used the HiColor highlights in red hot? I find the magenta doesn't come out too purple but you could mix with some of the red hot for a true red colour.

I have dark brown hair and u mixed magenta and red together.  I got hot roots looks pinker on my roots and the rest looks darker only looks lighter with the lighting.  I want my roots to even out with the rest of my hair.  Any suggestions?

Asked by: Bluechic_80
Occasionally if I haven’t washed my hair the day before I apply the fresh dye, I’ve noticed the dye doesn’t penetrate the roots as well as usual and the roots take up the dye unevenly. I assume it’s bc the roots are protected naturally by natural oils so that the fresh dye doesn’t penetrate as well. Uneven color has also occurred if I haven’t mixed the colors thoroughly before applying. But in no case have I had to recolor the roots. Things seem to even out by themselves. Also note that I use the same peroxide strength (20) each time, and a timer so that every application is completed and rinsed out in a similar time frame.
