Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love Ion Black Cherry ion black cherry has been my go-to color for a splash of something new when I’m bored with my brown hair. (Especially during this quarantine!) The color is very vibrant (more so in natural light) and doesn’t transfer. Not one drop of dye came off on my pillow cases or towels like other brands.

How light will I have to get my hair in order to use chrome? Also will I have to tone mt hair before I dye it?

Asked by: ceceliah
Toning the hair will get any brassiness out and even your color out as much as possible so it is recommended. But you shouldn’t bleach your hair over and over, but it’ll have to be pretty light and platinum to get that silver effect..

Can someone tell me what color the chrome fades into? I don’t want green hair in the future lol

Asked by: KageeOce
My natural hair color is dishwater blonde/grey. Its been several years since I used this color, but it seems that as it faded out it just blended back into my natural hair color. I never got any weird colors from it.

Do I need more than just hair color? Do I need to mix it with something?

Asked by: Sunshine58
Yes, you would need a developer with a level of 20 or higher depending on how bright you want to go! Always finish after you rinse, with a good conditioner. Sally's has after color "per pack" which is easier for me.

Can i use this on dark hair without stripping it first?

Asked by: Lisa1221
If you use it over time, it will lift and lighten your hair, but it will take many uses depending on the type of hair you have. But on the first usage not much will show up and you will be thoroughly disappointed. If you have the money to spend on a bunch of these, then go for it and I wish you the best, but otherwise, if you want platinum silver/white hair, you're going to have to bleach all of the pigment from your hair, with will leave it blonde. Then you should also get a toner, [NOT T-18] to try and help remove any yellows left behind from the bleaching. Unless you really know what you are doing, you won't get the full head of platinum on the second try. Make sure you have PLENTY of bleach because bleach does not lather, so you have to separate your hair and go bit by bit to cover every strand with plenty of bleach, if you do end up bleaching. Do not use 40 volume, and 10 won't lift, 20 will do minimal lifting so 30 is your best bet. If you get bleach, get a large quantity so that way you have enough for your whole head.

I have a light redish brown. do i need to pre-lighten to get the white chrome color?

Asked by: chrisPenn
From my experience you would need to lighten it. My hair is the same color, and If I go darker, the color sits great, but when you go lighter than your natural color, it is harder for the color to take, if you really want the chrome color to pop, I would definitely lighten it first

My hair is medium blonde (dyed) and I am ready to grow out my grey. Can I use the Chrome or Silver hair dye and let it go from there or do I have to bleach my hair. I just don't want the skunk look as my hair is growing out.

Asked by: DonnaLUH
I’d say it really depends on your roots. If they’re more than 50% grey, just color. If they’re darker or much different than the dyed color, bleach. It doesn’t need to be totally white, just consistent from root to tip.

Do I need developer with the black cherry color? What all do I need to dye my hair the black cherry?

Asked by: Brandi77
Yes you will need a developer. Depending on the difference in how many shades you're changing to, you may want to Google reference for the type of developer, when I used the black cherry, the 20 developer was fine and I'm starting with mostly Brown hair with Gray. The 20 developer was plenty for this use. It's recommended to use it in a 1:1ratio. So if you use one oz of color, use 1 oz of developer. Good luck! It's a great color!
