  • Mixing Ratio:

1:2 (1 ounce of color to two ounces of developer) High Lift shades (HL-N/V/G/B)

1:1 (1 ounce of color to one ounce of developer)

Processing times for root touch ups:

25-45 minutes based on the texture and porosity of your hair.

    Fine hair (25-30 minutes)

    Average hair (35-40 minutes)

Coarse or resistant gray hair (40-45 minutes)

Refreshing the mid-lengths to ends (5-15 minutes)

    Tips and Tricks

Crème hair color is best mixed in a tint bowl and applied with an a tint brush. A root to tip color application is not recommended. Always test strand first to ensure desired results!

For superior gray coverage a 20 volume developer is recommended.

If you touch up your roots every 4-6 weeks and would like to change colors you would still only retouch the roots and refresh the ends later in the processing time.

Remember, tint does not lift tint! When wanting to go lighter in shade selection you must remove the previous color first in order to go lighter! If wanting to stay the same shade level or going darker, color removal is not necessary in most scenarios.

  • 1:1 mixing ratio. Two ounces of color to two ounces of 10, 20, 30 or 40 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer. High Lift Blonde series is mixed 1:2 ratio: Two ounces of color to 4 ounces of 30 or 40 Volume Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer. Bowl and brush application is recommended. Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

If have never colored your hair and you want to change your current hair color or you have not colored in 3 months or longer follow these steps:

Apply hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair

    • Work gently through hair as you would a shampoo. Loosely pile hair on top of head

    • Process according to manufacturer’s directions. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather

    • Rinse until the water runs clear.

If you color your hair every 4-6 weeks with a shade of similar tone and level follow these steps:

Make 1/4” partings throughout dry, unwashed hair

    • Apply mixture onto new growth area only, working from the front to the back of your head. Leave color on new growth area for 25 minutes. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather

    • Rinse until the water runs clear.

Other tips: Always perform a strand and patch test

    • It is often not necessary to refresh the ends of the hair on every permanent hair color touch-up application

    • For resistant gray, use 20 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp® Creme Developer and apply to gray area first

    • Apply a stain barrier cream around the hairline prior to application when using dark shades

    • Choose a lighter shade than desired if you are unsure of which shade to use or if you have very few gray hairs

    • Use an old towel to protect your clothing

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It’s ok! It works! Not for long, I have naturally blonde hair and upon putting it on, it barely did a thing to my hair. A little disappointed but will still be trying it again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from hair do you have to bleach your hair for this my mom keeps saying you do but shes not even a hairdresser

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful!! I just paid $100 a week ago to bleach my hair since I wanted silver hair. We put a silver toner on but unfortunately it washed right off. I heard a lot of good things about the color Chrome and even went to different Sally stores to talk about it to make sure it was the right color and product for me before I purchased it. Well I just dyed my hair and I could have died. My hair is a blue/purple black. Not a hint of silver anywhere. I immediately rewashed it in the hottest water possible with dandruff shampoo and now I have ashy brown hair. My hair was white before and now it is so ugly. I am so embarrassed. I am praying that this continues to wash out. Of course I had to let them talk me into getting permanent too. Never again!

Do you have to use a Volumizer

Asked by: Bad hair
No; you'll just want to make sure you use the right level of developer for what you need. Rule of thumb: the higher the number, the lighter the color. I like this color best dark, so I use a 10 developer and am always pleased with the results.

I used Henna in my hair July 31 this year. My hair is a dark auburn but the gray is come back mainly at my hairline and around my crown. Can I use your dye or will it damage my hair?

Asked by: Sab112272
I can't speak to the henna use but I have been using the Permanent color for some time, primarily for my roots but also to deepen the color overall at times. I have had no negative effects and continue to happily use this product.

I bought 4N and 10v. As I wiped my hands off on a paper towel, I saw that the color was black?!? I did the 1:1. What did I do wrong?!

Asked by: Elimaesm
4N is very dark and often times hair color will look much darker and pigmented after mixed with developer and processed before it is washed and dried. I have black hair. If I want to get it to something like mahogany red, do I need to bleach first? Then, do I apply this product? What volumes do I use. Thank you!

Asked by: Seth1234
It depends on how light you want your hair to be. Since your hair is black you are most likely a Level 1 or a 1N. A 20 Volume Developer would bring you up to a level 2-3 and a 30 Volume Developer would being you up to a level 3-4. If you want to go lighter than that you will need to use a lightener first. If the Mahogany red that you are referring to is a 3RB (level 3 Red Brown) then you would only need a 20 or 30 Volume Developer and your color.

My hair is light blonde, red and brassy right now. Will 7NN intense medium blonde by ion darken it if I use a 20 developer or should I use 30. Will it still have or come out with red and brassy tones after I use it?

Asked by: BluMidNiteAngel
If 7NN is darker than your current color 20 Volume Developer will be fine. The developer will help to lift the color from the hair but if parts of your hair are very red you may want to use an additive to help cancel out the red from your current color or follow up with a toner if you are seeing unwanted warmth.
