  • Mixing Ratio:

1:2 (1 ounce of color to two ounces of developer) High Lift shades (HL-N/V/G/B)

1:1 (1 ounce of color to one ounce of developer)

Processing times for root touch ups:

25-45 minutes based on the texture and porosity of your hair.

    Fine hair (25-30 minutes)

    Average hair (35-40 minutes)

Coarse or resistant gray hair (40-45 minutes)

Refreshing the mid-lengths to ends (5-15 minutes)

    Tips and Tricks

Crème hair color is best mixed in a tint bowl and applied with an a tint brush. A root to tip color application is not recommended. Always test strand first to ensure desired results!

For superior gray coverage a 20 volume developer is recommended.

If you touch up your roots every 4-6 weeks and would like to change colors you would still only retouch the roots and refresh the ends later in the processing time.

Remember, tint does not lift tint! When wanting to go lighter in shade selection you must remove the previous color first in order to go lighter! If wanting to stay the same shade level or going darker, color removal is not necessary in most scenarios.

  • 1:1 mixing ratio. Two ounces of color to two ounces of 10, 20, 30 or 40 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer. High Lift Blonde series is mixed 1:2 ratio: Two ounces of color to 4 ounces of 30 or 40 Volume Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer. Bowl and brush application is recommended. Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

If have never colored your hair and you want to change your current hair color or you have not colored in 3 months or longer follow these steps:

Apply hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair

    • Work gently through hair as you would a shampoo. Loosely pile hair on top of head

    • Process according to manufacturer’s directions. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather

    • Rinse until the water runs clear.

If you color your hair every 4-6 weeks with a shade of similar tone and level follow these steps:

Make 1/4” partings throughout dry, unwashed hair

    • Apply mixture onto new growth area only, working from the front to the back of your head. Leave color on new growth area for 25 minutes. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather

    • Rinse until the water runs clear.

Other tips: Always perform a strand and patch test

    • It is often not necessary to refresh the ends of the hair on every permanent hair color touch-up application

    • For resistant gray, use 20 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp® Creme Developer and apply to gray area first

    • Apply a stain barrier cream around the hairline prior to application when using dark shades

    • Choose a lighter shade than desired if you are unsure of which shade to use or if you have very few gray hairs

    • Use an old towel to protect your clothing

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It's ok the color is accurate, the texture is good, the smell is not overwhelming either. It has one problem, it doesn't do a good job covering grays. After leaving it for a long time, you can still see the grays barely covered and in two weeks they reappear. I shampoo with sulfate free shampoo and wash hair twice a week so it shouldn't happen so soon. I used shade 5NN

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delay the Gray! I have used Ion Permanent Creme Hair Color for nearly 10 years now, and my evil plan in transitioning from brunette to silver is working! My hair pulls so much brassy red that the only highlight I can use is HL/V (thanks to advice from Sally's team!), gradually transitioned with a bit of 8A &9N to behind the crown. Now, at nearly age 65, the darker low back of my head is gaining silver, and this Chrome 7VA with mushroom 7MB is beautiful until more color fades there!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A safe choice... It’s a nice soft black color that has good lasting power. It goes on evenly with minimum effort which makes my job easier.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Color didn't last even though this was applied to previously bleached hair, it did not last more than four shampoos. I loved the color but it didn't last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleased Turned out very nice and dark, and covered grey mostly great. (Used 10 volume developer for 45 minutes) Little lighter in grey areas, but free highlights right? My hair a little more red than expected, but I like it

Hello, i used ion brilliance Permanent Creme Hair Color on my roots in "Medium Copper" to match the rest of my hair and it blended well but slightly darker. Can i reeaply same color to my roots to make slight lighter?

Asked by: Anonymous
Simply, color doesnt lift color. Your best bet is to focus shampoo on the roots and do a deep conditioner every once in a while to keep your hair healthy. That being said, if you would like to make the rest of your hair match your roots, you could totally dye it again. Good luck on your hair adventures!!

Can you mix hi lift ash blonde and silver together to get a light silver/gray

Asked by: Lisacav89
You can mix hair colors together but the results will vary based on your current hair color and how the colors mix. You might want to perform a swatch test first to see how this will turn out. Hi I have naturally black hair and I want to permanently dye it light brown. Would I have to bleach my hair first and then apply the color or would I be able to just apply the color on my black hair? Thank you

Asked by: siddhi16
IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE POROSITY OF YOUR HAIRTYPE,THE THICKNESS&THE LENGTH:THESE DAYS THERE ARE COLORS OUT THERE THAT ARE HI-LIFTING,SO YOU DO NOT NEED ANY BLEACHING!

Going from a medium brown to dark brown, also wanting to cover some grey. Is 20 volume recommended? I’d use 10 volume given that it’s going darker but I’m wanting to make sure it lasts and covers grey well.
