Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not dye my hair at all... I was told to use a hair remover to strip my red hair to dye it pink. I did sooo added the magenta onto my hair. And it did not stick to my roots nor did it stay on the rest of my hair. Product looks like its dying your hair until you rinse it off. As a matter of fact it turned my hair a tint of red. Was very upset i was anticipating that i would even have a tint of pink but nothing :(

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fades too fast I've had good experiences with Ion color in the past, but I recently bought their lavender dye because I wanted pastel purple hair. When I first dyed it, I LOVED IT! It was the perfect color! But after only 2 washes it had faded completely to a white/silver. I was extremely disappointed as I had hoped for it to last at least a little longer. Most of it came out with the very first wash. Trying a different brand with my next pastel attempt.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible I'm not one to usually write reviews but I was just so upset with this product that I felt like I wanted to save others from buying it and being disappointed like I was. Like some others had said the color does not stick to the hair . I have tried this product two separate times even after bleaching my hair and then dying it the color was not vibrant at all. Don't waste your time or money on this product it's not worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable Excellence! After trying many brands, this is the one that always gives me the best coverage and outrageous complements everywhere I go. I always recommend this brand! As someone that has a total lack of cosmetology training I appreciate the ease of use and professional look. I've had actual hair professionals surprised to find out that I dye my own hair. Rainbow for life!!! *the picture doesn't do justice to the colors!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Depends on the color, and how you apply it This is too thick to put on hair without a tint brush and it's tricky if you don't dilute it with a little bit of white, silicone-free conditioner (conditioner that isn't white won't dye your hair but it makes the pigment you're mixing harder to judge). My typical hair is SHARK BLUE straight from the tube to bleached and toned regrowth (to stain the hair), then diluting the remainder with conditioner (or Manic Panic Blue Steel to thin the mixture without diluting the color very much), then I apply that to the rest of my hair--sometimes I'll mix in TITANIUM to get more grey tones. Within 2-4 weeks (I wash my hair 2-3 times/week), it fades to a very pale blue/grey and I love it; it never fully washes out, you'd need a bit of bleach to get rid of the remaining pale pastel blue tones but be careful about overbleaching. When I got my last order, I noticed they've changed the packaging again to make it even more misleading than usual. Ion Shark Blue is blue/grey, not a bright blue at all (pics attached). PSA: ION BLUES will stain processed hair and have a tendency to not wash out. Bleaching doesn't work unless you've faded it down to a very pale pastel blue or green (depending on base color) and bleaching before significant fading can push the pigments deeper into the hair cuticle where it will be almost impossible to remove, ever. If you want to commit to being a bluenette long-term, Ion blues are an effective way to get a good, deep base of blue tones, but don't dye your hair with an Ion blue over the weekend and then get upset when it doesn't wash out in time to go to work on Monday, or even for your sister's wedding next month---that's just not realistic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great if you know how to use it! Don't wash your hair for 24 to 48 hours. Bleach. Rinse with water only! Don't try and brush your hair til it's dry! Blow dry your hair! Mix the color with ion Absolute Perfection Booster. Use a brush to put in the color, seperating the hair into thin parts. Once complete add the rest of the color where needed and apply extra coat on top. Put a plastic cap on. When ready to rinse use as cold of water as you can stand. Then add ion color sealer to your hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with cold water add small amount of color sealer and conditioner. Towel dry then blow dry again. To make it last don't use hot water, and use shampoo sparingly. Hot water and shampoo rinse the color out. I have no color bleeding on clothes or bedding after. I have tried many different brands and non of them have worked as good. Ion works the best if you know how! Hope this helps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Uneven coverage Product is very thick and does not saturate hair well. Coverage was spotty at best; much of the blonde shows through. Absolutely will not buy again. Can't wait for it to fade out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Bought this in hopes to have LAVENDAR hair. Turned my hair blue and faded to a terrible green color. I have naturally dirty blonde hair with very light bleached balayage throughout. Now I am left with what looks like blonde hair that was turned green from chlorine. Do not reccomend unless you know what you are doing and have much experience with using bright colors on your hair. I asked the worker in the store what would work best for what I was looking for and received little to no help. So I went with this color and resulted in what is not lavender hair.

I recently bought the ion color brilliance semi permanent hair color and I was wondering if it need to b mixed with developer.

Asked by: Dezthetrapper
No like the instructions say: you don't need to use developer. But it's recommended that your hair is pre-lightened before applying 'ion color brillance semi permanent..thus ensuring the desired color

Any one have problems with the dyes not taking? I bought pink and lavender and nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Asked by: RM1467BS
Ion pastels only work on a base no darker than platinum. Freshly bleached and toned (if your hair isn't toned, the colors will pull yellow tones, especially the Rose, even if you can't see significant yellow tones in your base), then shampooed with a clarifying shampoo is best. If there's any trace of conditioner or oils on your hair, it will stop the semi-perm from taking evenly, or at all. Mix Ion with a bit of cheap, silicone-free conditioner to get it to spread easier and/or with a bit of a thinner semi-perm dye like Manic Panic in a similar color. Use a tint-brush for even coverage, fully saturate the hair (this will probably take more than 1 tube of Ion).

How many weeks does it take for this color to get faded/go away ?

Asked by: Isabella56
Pastels/greys: 1-3 washes and you'll be close enough to normal to be able to color right over (note: don't put pastels over a base darker than platinum, they won't take right and will pull a lot of yellow tones). Reds/purples: 4-8 washes but they will leave a stain. Red ends slightly orangish and purple will leave a green tint if you put it over a base darker than very pale yellow. Blues: Ion blues are notorious for never completely washing out. You can force-fade them for months and you'll still have a blue tint. Even Shark Blue (a blue-toned grey, do not trust the box color) will fade to a powder blue over a platinum base and then stop fading. Don't use Ion blues unless you really mean it.

Can you leave it in overnight with out it hurting your hair.

Asked by: Lexieconley
Yes you can! I always leave my dye in overnight, to make it last longer. I usually leave it in for about 8 hours and never had any problems. It makes my hair really soft and smooth. Just mix it with some conditioner or another dye product that's more liquid because Ion is more of a thick product and is hard to spread by itself.

How can I get this color out of my hair? I don’t want it in any longer

Asked by: Unikitty
You either have to wash your hair a million times or you're going to have to bleach it out.

Which of the blue dyes (sky, aqua, shark, azure) will fade into a lighter blue? I don’t like when the blue dyes fade into a green/turquoise, so I need a dye that fades into a lighter blue and then back to the original bleached color.

Asked by: AlexKrit7
All of those will fade to a lighter blue: they're all blue shades. If your hair has yellow tones in it before you dye or if you wash your hair with hard water, that's when you'd start seeing green as the color fades (previous reviewer Noel8085 doesn't understand color theory: light blue color + yellow tones = green hair, the dyes don't have a green base). But! Ion is bad choice for a blue dye you'll want to fade out completely. Ion blues don't do that, it's kind of an ordeal getting the color faded/removed, you'll probably have to dye over it with something darker when you're sick of it. Manic Panic Shocking Blue fades from blue to purple to pink to gone, that's a decent blue for a graceful fade if you don't mind purple/pink along the way. (I'm assuming you're going to lighten your hair before dyeing. You'll need a pale yellow base at the darkest for blue to not look green as it fades.)

I have like a lighter dirty blonde hair. I was thinking about dying it with these ion dyes. I have never dyed my hair like this. How long will it take for my hair to go back to normal and will it be the same color as before ?

Asked by: Tabby2002
It all depends on how much you wash your hair, if you wash a lot and use warm-hot water it'll last (in my hair) a monthish. If you use cold water and wash like once a week it'll last longer. When you dye your hair it'll have a tint to it even after it fades, so you'll have to strip the color or cut it off if you want a completely natural color

Can you use developer w/ this, or do you only use it alone?

Asked by: Carina101
No it's a semi permanent stain dye. There is no need for peroxide. But I suggest using white conditioner to lighten the color even a little bit, it makes the color your using more rich and gives you a better idea of what your getting. And any extra moisture is great.
