Permanent brights provide bold, contemporary color that lasts. Unlock your hair’s true potential with Ion’s cutting-edge, salon-quality color science and bring home vibrancy like never before.

  • Apply on pre-lightened or highlighted hair, 1:1 mixing ratio. Two ounces of color to two ounces of 10 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer. Bowl and brush application is recommended. Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

If you have never colored your hair and you want to change your current hair color or you have not colored in 3 months or longer follow these steps:

    • Apply hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair
    • Work gently through hair as you would a shampoo. Loosely pile hair on top of head
    • Process according to manufacturer’s directions. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather
    • Rinse until the water runs clear.

If you color your hair every 4-6 weeks with a shade of similar tone and level follow these steps:

    • Make 1/4” partings throughout dry, unwashed hair
    • Apply mixture onto new growth area only, working from the front to the back of your head. Leave color on new growth area for 25 minutes. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather
    •  Rinse until the water runs clear.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely Terrible Please listen to everyone here when they say these colors don’t stay! I used the flamingo pink first and it washed off so fast, but I thought the product was defective since the color was developed in the tube before I even mixed it with the developer! I then tried the light purple colorand again it washed off in one wash. I even tried to keep my head heated with the blow dryer to help it form the color but it didn’t work. For more info, my hair was bleached twice before I started this process.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not as expected Bought this on 11/10. Suppose to be "Sapphire" it came out like midnight blue almost black. very disappointed. my hair was already prelighten to a very light brown. instructions on paper says "20 to 40 minutes" um okay?? did use the correct developer. Definitely would not recommend for a blueish shade.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Dye Bought the lavender color and my hair is blue and my hair isn't fully dyed. Bought two bottles to dye my whole head and the dye left patchy marks. The front part of my hair is dyed and the sides and back are barey colored. My head was fully coated and I waited the recommended time, but my expierence was poor. Would NOT reccommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turned my hair orange and pink !!!! I bought this last week and was so excited. The color was radiant orchid . Idk what happened but it made my hair pink and orange. My hair was a very light brown to begin with. I’ve always used these colors and nothing like this has ever happened !!! The only difference is , I used the permanent one instead of semi permanent. No idea but I had to strip it and recolor it

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Color fading This color fades quickly. After one wash it looks gray and we followed the directions on the box. I do like the color but I though it would last longer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wrong colors in tubes I got 4 of the orchid purple one only 1 was the right color I don't think it's Sally's fault I think it's ion cause how does it say that color and come out white so upset I spent alot of money on those and other products to do my hair now idk what to do but call Sally's or ion frustrating

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright I used this as directed and it came lighter than expected but bright . The people complaining and comparing other brands are comparing direct dyes that do not need developer this product need developer equal to tube 2 oz each. If used properly with a 20 developer it will even cover all gray something none of the other brands mentioned did long for me.

Is this only online? Or does it apply in store as well?

Asked by: Tscarioni
I BUY IT ONLINE. Sorry, I don't know if you can buy it directly. I can give it 5 stars for color! I take it to my colorist and she only charges me $30 for application and blowout! I love it, I buy the deep purple!

How Permenant is this permenant dye? Will any of the colors wash out completely like the semi-permenant brights?

Asked by: Ashgirl1
I normally use the red and well with any bright colors if you wash your hair consistently everyday then the colors will fade faster. I typically refresh my color every 2-3 weeks .

Ummmmmm my radiant orchid came out of the tube a cream color. Can I return this for a new one?

Asked by: Ginprewy
They need to say that on the box because it can confuse some people but you have to add developer to the creme to get the orchid color. You will be shocked when it changes color all the sudden to this gorgeous color !!

Do I need developer with this product?

Asked by: Kimberley000
YES YOU NEED DEVELOPER but my instructions in my box do NOT include the word "sensitive" in them they just say mix 1:1 with 10 volume developer so they either changed that because you do not have to use sensitive unless you are prone to irritation or it is the one color that irritates on its own.. who knows. But I've used 10 , 20 and 40 volume developer with these and never sensitive always regular with great results !! Use this without developer and you will probably be very disappointed in the results. They make instructions for a very important reason... they need to be followed.

Do you need developer for this?

Asked by: CaitlynR
Yes you need developer but it does NOT have to be sensitive only you can use any level 10 if your hair is pre lightened and a higher developer like 20 , 30 , or even 40 volume if you want to lighten while you color but be careful.. it's far easier to pre lighten to the bright white or light blonde you want to put the color on than to use a higher number developer and HOPE that it lightens while coloring since you can't monitor the lightening while coloring at the same time. If your hair is already medium blonde or has previous color like mine I use a 20 volume to help it lighten that last bit so the color is nice and bright but I originally lightened to where I wanted it before coloring the FIRST time. And you only need "sensitive " if you do indeed have a super sensitive scalp and would use it anyway. Nowhere does it say in any instructions that this is the only developer you can use and I've used many volumes and different brands just fine with excellent results. Hope THIS helped.

Why is this dye not working on my hair?? I got the magenta, I followed the directions, and my hair is pre lightened and everything!! I’ve put it on TWICE now, thinking maybe I did something wrong the first time, but it didn’t work the 2nd time either.

Asked by: ShyTheHairQueen
Did you mix it with level 10 creme developer ? Did you use a pre color treatment that opens the cuticles in the hair ? Ion had one. I have no idea why this wouldn't work because I have everything from dark brown to light brown to blonde in my hair and I use 6 of these colors at the same time for an oil slick look every 6 months and have never ever had one not develope and color exactly like it's supposed ti. They last 6 months too if you wash in sulfate free shampoo and cold water only 1 or 2 times weekly. You might get your hair colored by a colorist first and find out if your hair is resistant thru them first and if so find out what they do to get the color to take. I've just never seen or had this problem so it sounds like a skipped step or the wrong developer or something.

How long does this take to wash out. I’m afraid it’s going to fade really fast. Is it normal for a lot of dye to come out while washing it?

Asked by: Kat Hammer
I've been using ion brights for over 6 years doing an oil slick combo on my hair and if you follow the directions (which people who complain that is doesn't work obviously haven't done) and use only cold water wash and rinse with sulfate free shampoo your color will last and last. Only wash once or twice a week with dry shampoo in between and your permanent brights can last 5 tp 6 months but they will slowly fade over that time. I've never had these stain anything after the original coloring and rinsing (when the most dye comes out.. so be careful when you actually do the coloring because that's the time that it will stain if you get it on anything) as long as you are using cold water when you wash and you rinse off any color that gets anywhere. This is the only stuff I will use and works perfectly lasting a very long time (it's been 7 months since I colored and my hair is still multiple different colors just faded to a pastel group of shades instead of bright now.. time to reapply). Those who complain the loudest are the ones who never bothered to read instructions, wash every other day in hot water with sulfate shampoo, and cry when things don't work out and they can't understand why. So just follow some simple guidelines and you'll be as happy as I am.
